Guest guest
Reb, I had both knees replaced, and both hips, too. For yearsI was able to do most anything that I wanted; now, only MSslows me way down--severe peripheral neuropathy.Love to you and to your knees,nTo: MSersLife Sent: Fri, June 3, 2011 3:40:10 AMSubject: Re: Sharon's update That's so annoying, isn't it! I know I, who have started to gain some extra weight (my weight is about 10 pounds over my ideal weight) because of long time knee issues (my knees are old for their years, have had surgery a couple of times, long and boring story...), get super irritated when medical people assume it's the other way around (weight causing knee issues). For one, if that was the case, I would have had the extra weight before I started having knee issues, not developing it after years of bad knees. But secondly, and I think that's what's really annoying, before my knee issues started I walked, a lot, could walk for hours at a time, and I loved it, and missed it sorely when the knee issues made it too difficult. And, yes, that I am not doing that is of course why I am gaining a bit of weight, but to suggest that the weight is the *cause* of the problem, is to say that I choosed not to be able to do one of the things I loved most since always, and I find that very provocative. Oh, well, doctors and empathy...As of right now, I have started (two months ago) to walk for an hour a day (have only missed doing it once during these months), preferably in the early mornings, before it gets hot, and street gets crowded, and before the day's work starts. I find that very relaxing, and energizing in the same time. And it does let me discover parts of this city I never knew of, despite having lived here for 10 years plus, almost making the city brand new for me. I usually bring a camera along. Yes, it does make my knees hurt a bit extra at times, but I am at a point where I feel that I am tired of having my knees run my life. If they don't like it, they can find themselves another body to be part of... And seriously since my knee problems are only going to get worse whatever I do (I have had that explained to me), I might as well do something I enjoy. And if I'd lose a pound or two doing it, it wouldn't hurt either. love/Reb
