I'm a chelating adult, and I'm also chelating my 2 NT kids, ages 9 and almost 11. We got started on this journey because my youngest was an explosive, moody, aggressive toddler and preschooler. Digestive enzymes by Houston's produced a remarkable change in her----she was suddenly sunny, and more rational. That was the first clue that something was messing her and making her act that way, and she needed biomed help. As I began to learn more about Hg poisoning, I could piece together a history of exposure for myself, and my two kids. We ran DDI hair tests on the three of us, and we all met the counting rules. My kids are clearly NT, and I'm pretty sure if anyone knew I was chelating, they'd think I'm crazy because there is nothing wrong with my kids. Still, as sometimes only a parent knows, I could see that something was a little off. Even so, just for the future---for prevention of future problems---it seemed worthwhile. We began chelating in December of 2005, starting out with a trial of ten rounds. By the end of the ten rounds, I checked in with my skeptical husband and he said " keep chelating " . If I had to do it all over again, I would have jumped on thyroid and adrenals right away. I was SO freakin' nervous that first round. I was also worried I would hurt them somehow, or that I was crazy to believe a bunch of invisible people (online lists, Andy, etc.). IMO, there is no way you're going to hurt him on Andy's protocol. The dose amount, timing, and supportive supplements are key. Not all chelation is equal. There are some very harmful protocols out there. I also skim A-M (autism mercury) and have found it helpful. Esp. Moria's page in the Files, and using Onibasu to search the archives. You'd be welcome there. HTH, in Illinois

We started with DMSA because I wanted to keep it simple. I had just gotten my amalgams out and couldn't start ALA yet. I know all of us have been exposed to Pb via home renovations, so I knew I wanted to use DMSA. We added in ALA later, when it was 3 months past my amalgam removal. We started off at a low dose, as recommended from Moria's site. 1/8 to 1/2 mg of DMSA or ALA per pound of body weight, per dose. That turned out to be 12.5 mg of DMSA for my kids, and it was easy to just divide a 25 mg capsule of DMSA from VRP in half. And right, I figured if any of us were going to chelate, might as well do the entire crew and get it over with and on with our lives. Detox, it's a family project! I'll add that we have taken a break from chelation because I have not been feeling so hot. I've had some serious stress in my personal life and I need to get my thyroid and other hormones balanced. I hope to start up with some rounds again soon, as soon as I feel up to the interrupted sleep. We've taken May and June off. 60 rounds. I will say that I've noticed some regression in my youngest. She is less cooperative, has mood swings where she is very crabby, and we've seen her act mean in ways that remind us of the past. Again, it's subtle, but as parents we notice it. So, that is a reminder to me that we're not done yet. The changes need to stick once off chelation and supplements. I also recommend keeping good notes, or a journal or something. Improvements are often subtle and occur over a period of time. People around us might think our kids are suddenly " maturing " but we know better. in Illinois
