When you take magnesium salts orally, internally, they have a laxative effect. Epsom salt baths do not cause D. If you drank the epsom salt solution, then you would get D.

I've been reading about Epsom salt baths on the Breaking the Vicious Cycle site, and wondered if an Epsom salt bath has a great risk of making diarrhea worse? I've read that the salt has a laxative effect and we do NOT need that! I guess it's possible my husband is having a "die off" episode since the frequency of the BMs is increasing after two months of slow but steady improvement, and I saw that this type bath is helpful during "die off." Advice?Wife of FredUC, 03/06, SCD 04/21/09, no meds but Remicade, 4th infusion due July 8th
