Guest guest
Hi there, A " colleague " of mine (a mother of a 7-year-old daughter with atypical psc) found information on human parvovirus causing autoimmune disease, among other things. More interestingly, this seemed to be linked with elevated IgG4 levels which both of our kids have. Ok, I do not know if all psc patients have elevated IgG4 levels (as one of our other docs seemed to think), but it just occurred to me to ask if anyone has any information if parvovirus has anything to do with psc-like symptoms which might not turn out to be psc after all. This is a possibility in the case of the little girl. Also, my son happened to have parvovirus infection at the age of 2 and his current hep says he has most likely had psc already before 07/2003. My son's first ERCP on 19 February confirmed psc dx with caliber changes all over the intrahepatic ducts and intrahepatic stricturing in the small ducts which was described as " advanced " although no stricturing was shown in the MRCP last October. His extraheptic ducts were ok, though, apart from the intrapancreatic part of the common bile duct, which was great news. The brush cytology result was benign inflammation class 2. I had not heard of these classes (unless it meant staging but it did not sound like that). If there are classes describing the inflammation, does anyone happen to have any info on that? Guest guest
Dear Dave, Thank you very much for the many interesting links although some of the implications of higher serum IgG4 levels are not so good. Even if parvovirus had originally triggered the disease I guess there is no specific treatment that would cure it even if the cause is discovered? Thank you once again and best wishes, Taru-Mari (mother of Eemeli (11), PSC 07/2003)
