Guest guest
You need to have them search by NDC number or else they will not find it. I went through the same thing. The NDC number is 544-82-93001. They have to call the wholesaler and get it from them. They will not have it at the pharmacy. They will also not have it in their computer system so allow 5 business days to do that. It's a HUGE pain the butt to get this. Where are you located? If you are in the Dallas area I can give you the name of my pharamcy that NOW can get it. Arman arman_shirin@... Pharmacies that carry VSL#3 DS Hi all!I've been trying to find a pharmacy that carries VSL#3 DS (the prescription strength version). So far I've struck out at my local drugstore as well as at two chains (Walgreens and CVS). They all say that their distributors don't carry it. I've found some posts online (in a j-pouch group) from people who've gotten it, my insurance says they will cover it, and I've convinced my doctor to prescribe it, but I can't seem to actually get it!Before I sit down and call every drugstore in a 30 mile radius, has anyone here actually gotten any prescription strength VSL#3 from a drugstore chain that might have a location in my area?athan Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Guest guest
I got it from Long's in Tarzana, CA. It's over the counter, but behind the counter since it must be refrigerated. I think you can also buy it online and it's cheaper (not sure how they ship it to keep it cold). But if you can get a prescription and have your insurance pay for it that's great, since it is expensive.Marie To: From: thegeorges2@...Date: Wed, 12 Mar 2008 13:35:23 -0400Subject: Pharmacies that carry VSL#3 DS Hi all! I think part of the problem is that since there's an over the counter version that's easier to find, the pharmacies think that's what you're looking for. Walgreens just tried to sell me a bottle of probiotics with 8 billion bacteria per capsule, and claimed it was an exact equivalent to VSL#3. I'm sure it's fine stuff, but not only is 8 billion not quite the same as 900 billion, but my insurance won't cover it and it will cover VSL#3! > It's a HUGE pain the butt to get this. > This is what I'm discovering! Hopefully as more and more of us request it, it will get easier to find! I'm in East Tennessee... so unfortunately it probably wouldn't be cost effective to drive to Dallas! ;-) Maybe we should start a database of pharmacies that sell VSL#3... Guest guest
If you doctor is going to do a script for it maybe you can get it at a mail order Phamacy. I had to get my URSO that way. My local drugstores don't stock the quantity of it that i am on (7/day). You may have to contact your insurance company to find out who there mail order pharmacy is. I have started getting all my meds(reacuring) from mail order. My insurance will pay more that way and plus I can get a 3 months supply for the same ammount if not cheeper than what I can at the local phamacy where I was getting 1 month supply. My URSO was 85/month at the local pharmacys and not that I am getting them thru the mail I pay 40/3 month. Lots cheeper. Guest guest
Ok, I think I've finally gotten this solved. The NDC # did help, but even with it I had a bunch of pharmacies tell me they couldn't get it. I finally called Sigma Tau, who manufactures VSL#3, and talked to a very helpful woman there who told me the magic words: drop ship. I guess the wholesalers don't stock it, but they can order it and have it drop shipped direct to the pharmacy. Once you tell them this, they know not to give up when the wholesaler tells them they don't carry it. She also told me that Cardinal Health was one wholesaler that could definitely get it, and that CVS used Cardinal Health, so CVS should be able to get it. CVS had just told me yesterday that they couldn't get it, which just goes to show that employees of an organization (CVS in tis case) don't always know what they're talking about. Anyhow, I went to the drugstore I had started at in the first place, and handed him a sheet with the drug name, the NDC number, the dosage etc. and the name of Cardinal health on it. He got on the phone to them and at first they couldn't find it, but then he gave them the NDC code and they pulled it up. So now it's on order, and the only hurdle left to cross is to see if the insurance company lives up to their word and pays for it when they actually run the prescription through. So thanks to Arman and the others who helped with figuring out how to get this! athan

Guest guest
Great news... arman_shirin@... Re: Re: Pharmacies that carry VSL#3 DS Ok, I think I've finally gotten this solved. So thanks to Arman and the others who helped with figuring out how to get this! athan Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Yahoo! Search.
