Back from the beach

When we got to the beach, the school bus was letting kids off at their houses

-- their great, big, beautiful beach houses.

Boone tells me he wants to ride the school bus at the beach.

Do you want to move to the beach?

" YES! " said Boone.

You want to live in one of these houses?

" 109 Pelham Drive, " said Boone.

You want to move our house to the beach or do you want to live in Georgia?

" YES, 109 Pelham to the beach! " said Boone.

I think he wants to move our house (a 3BR brick ranch-style) to a beach where

it will be surrounded by large three story frame houses on stilts and that one

house that resembles a space ship. The space ship house sticks out like a sore

thumb -- sort of like our brick ranch-style would.

Too bad the space ship house isn't for sale anymore.

Oh well. I keep telling myself that one day we're going to escape to the cape

for good.

Boone is so wonderful there. He was asleep every night by 8 p.m. and we didn't

use any clonidine at all. Not once.

It was so wonderful. Boone NEEDS to live at the beach.

Vacation pics to bore you all to follow. Just be glad I don't know how to

upload videotape yet.

rowan too - there is something very therapeutic about the beach. i wish we

lived at the beach - we do live on the shores of lake superior but it could

hardly be described as a beach most of the year!

I find the beach therapeutic because of the noise of the waves.it is very

lulling for me. On the other hand, the vastness of the ocean itself overwhelms

. So we go camping in the mountains.

Gosh, you guys are making me homesick. We didn't live on the ocean but

always close enough to drive to it. Now I'm land locked and haven't

been to see the ocean in hrmm, 5 years or so.

Gee, I really miss it.

Maybe?

I don't have a clue. I've never taken the kids to the beach yet. I've

been too scared to. : / I'm afraid and would both drown

because they don't understand the risks.

That's the first thing I thought when I saw Boone in the ocean. " OH MY

GOD!!! "

*sigh*

Do they make ocean leashes?

I think we'll stick to swimming pools.

> I wonder if it's the sound of the surf. The steady white noise?

I bet that has something to do with it. Boone loves to have waves crashing

against him too. That's got to be craving deep pressure.

I spent two years being scared to death. I would stand over Boone every

second. This year he didn't go out far at all.

I drew a picture in the sand of a shark and wrote " sharks in deep water --

will bite Boone. " Then I drew a boy with water up to his waist and told

Boone if the water was any higher than his waist, he was in deep water and

the sharks could bite him. This is the truth, by the way.

Boone doesn't like sharks at all. They are vile and nasty creatures who

attack perfectly good Ford trucks.

It worked! Boone responds to visual communication, even if it's just

pictures in the sand. I guess I can thank the Ford Motor Company for

planting the seeds of fear. Without that commercial, I doubt he would have

understood what I was trying to get across to him.

It's a total sensory experience.

Jacqui could literally stay on the beach indefinitely.

Dry sand

Wet sand

Water

Sea Salt

Sea Smell

Breaking Waves

Sun

Wind

Waves

Shells

Rocks

Beauty

It's a never ending list.

*sigh*

So glad Boone had a great time at the beach. Wonder what it is

about the beach? It's always been great for too.

You know, the funny thing about the ocean...and maybe this is just me...

But the kids seem to know the limits. They seem to know the inherent

dangers.

That's been my experience.
