I seriously doubt it is PSC related, although I will

say that my itching is more pronounced during my

period. I'm 51, and I've been told I have been

perimenapausal since 36...HAH!

But I now believe I am in the midst of it. I can't

rely on the old biological calendar any more...it's

been a few months, but I certain am having the hot

flashes....(tropical mini-vacations)

Hi ;

I'm sorry, this is way outside my area of knowledge. Why do they call

it " menopause " anyway ... shouldn't it be " womenopause " ?

Best regards,

Thanks ....I have wondered that too and I am a woman!

do with PSC

Very funny you guys, off the top of my head I think it has something to do with

the root word Mensus(sp) latin for monthly discharge. But that is without

" pausing " to look it up. Since I'm going through " it. " myself, it has very

little humor attached to it. At least, I had my uterus out, so no actual mensus,

but I still feel the cycle a bit and the hot flashes. I agree, check it out with

the dr. Take care, Cheryl ID 49 and can't wait until " it " is finally over.

Penny! Great minds think alike!

I am not at this stage of life yet, but I can tell you that I knew I was

pregnant with Fritz

because I found Jens' breathing to be a source of irritation! Ah, lovely

hormones!

In my (vicarious) experience, this is not unusual at all. Menopause is defined

as 12 months sans menses, but sporadic ovulation can (and does!) occur for

several to many years after.

This too shall pass (and I'm not the only one who hopes it's quick!)

My periods stopped as if my body turned off a switch at 55, but

all of a sudden 20 months since my last period, I have started bleeding and it

does feel like I am having a period.

Hi ,

Liver disease itself can cause all sorts of problems with menstruation. So it’s possible that you weren’t

actually menopausal,

but lacked periods because of the liver disease. Below is a pretty good article on “female”

liver disease. I’m glad you

made an appointment with your doctor, anything “new

or different” needs to be checked out. Anyway here’s the article…….

Reported the occurrence of amenorrhea (lack of

periods) in as many as 50% of female patients with chronic liver

disease and noted that amenorrhea was the initial manifestation in 5 of 18

patients with chronic and acute liver disease. Irregular

bleeding, oligomenorrhea, and metrorrhagia have also been described in patients

with chronic and acute liver diseases of various causes. Menstrual

abnormalities have often preceded the usual clinical manifestations of overt

liver dysfunction…….

Hope everything went OK with doctor's appointment. I too was glad you went in, as postmenopausal bleeding absolutely needs to be evaluated by your doctor.

Take care.

Hi Joanne

Thanks for the concern. Had the doctors visit today, he too was

concerned. I got poked and prodded, with a smear test taken, he is

now going to write to a specialist and we will see what results.

I am feeling fine. I had a laugh as chocolate does not appear on

my 'food radar' at all (except when I had had regular periods) and

last week I got a cake of chocolate at the supermarket...and it

wasn't even on my shopping list! (I must admit to eating a lot of

the chocolate by myself, whilst wondering why on earth I was craving

it) - the period arrived a soon after. Now not even interesting in

eating chocolate.

Thanks again
