Hi all -

I am new to this list and have been reading trying to figure out the different topics that people bring up. I have vaginitis that I can't seem to get rid of....newest doctor says it's contact dermatitis or something and recommended I stop using the baby wipes I usually use to clean myself mid-day and even soap "down there" for a while.... I get horrible itching at night and the only things that I've found to work for me is oral benadryl (as someone else suggested) and a prescription cream called Clotrimazole and Betamethasone Dipropionate by Taro. It sometimes itches during the day as well, but I think I notice it most at night because I have no other distractions. I've also found that sleeping on my stomach or back with my legs spread slightly apart is better than on my side with my legs together making my itchy spots rub up against each other and make them itch more. ;-)

My itching used to be on the flaps of skin (sorry, don't know the technical term) and stopped where the hairline started, but now it's the opposite - I don't itch on the bare skin area, but just around the areas with the hair. That's why my "new" doctor thinks it's dermatitis now, rather than vaginitis (before I was being treated for Strep B with MetroGel.) I don't have much burning, just terrible itching at night - sometimes it's worse than others, but everytime I wipe myself going to the bathroom - ugh, there it is again! Anyone tried anything that works to get rid of this? I can't imagine going through the rest of my life scratching myself down there all the time - I feel like Al Bundy from "Married with Children"! ;-)

Cindy
