Guest guest
, I cannot say thank you enough for your email. I am so concerned right now. I just found out through a bone scan that I've had a past fracture of my sacrum. I know it was caused by childbirth. I spoke with Dr. Conway Friday and asked him if he has had any cases of PNE due to sacral fracture...he said, 'yes', only one and she was an elderly lady with 'classic' PNE. I am so angry! I've walked around for years now with a fractured sacrum. To fracture a sacrum is rare, especially without being in an accident. As you can imagine, I'm very concerned about the nerves. There is a boney protrusion on the right side that feels like it 'digs' into the tissue (ligaments, muscles). You mentioned former activities. I did gymnastics, too, for about seven years. I am very hypermobile and I think that adds in to everything. , you have me wondering...maybe that boney protrusion that bugs the crap out of me is the ischial spine? My pcp initially thought it was a tubercule on the sacrum that was torsioned...all I know it that it's there, it's real and it hurts. Would you mind sharing with me about the nerve block? Did Dr. Quesada do it bi-laterally? I only hurt on the right side. I have to fly home the same day as the nerve block and I don't know if they will let me. No-one told me that you cannot fly same day after a block. is not in the office today...but I'm not backing out...I have to go...Hugs, Chelleeuc1109 s wrote: Chelle, Even if you did have a slight "entrapment" wouldn'tmean that you'd need surgery- PT could very well getrid of the entrapment because it could be caused bytight muscles. He works closely with Prendergast in San Francisco about this stuff so he isknowledgeable about PT and knows how it can get rid ofentrapment because it would just mean relaxing thosemuscles that are constricting the nerve. Also, Dr.Conway said that it's very well even people withoutpelvic pain or nerve pain could have some very slightform of entrapment, just that for whatever reason oncertain people it begins to cause pain and that nerveblocks could also very well get rid of that pain oncethe nerve calms back down. I know how you feel- I felt the same way when I wentup there. Also, the nurse that did my emg testfreaked me out when she told me my levels (4 somethingand 5 something) and told me that I had entrapment-the first thing I thought of is "oh my god i'm goingto need surgery and i'll never get better", but then Imet with Dr. Conway and he told me that I was NOT asurgery candidate based on my pelvic/rectal exam andsymptoms and that the nerve blocks may get rid of it. He also did not think I had an entrapment, just thatmy nerves were acting up from friction against myischial spine bone and all the types of activities Iused to do (gymnastics, snowboarding, running, biking, squatting) due to the make-up of my bone structure. You could see this very easily from the x-ray guidednerve block- where he injected it, when it was closestto the nerve, was basically right on the tip of thatischial spine bone, which on me was very pointy and hesaid on lots of people that he sees that bone is notas pointy and rubbing right against the nerve. Just wanted to throw that out there and hopefully calmyour fears a little bit.
