Guest guest
It's a tough crowd on here on PSC-Support - Anyone else have any words of encouragement for the team? Leaving a comment on the blog is one easy way. Lee I passed on what you wrote and it was appreciated by all. Here is the latest report from Mechanic and Crew Chief, Merrill, former US Air Force Captain: " These guys are all like soldiers, tired hungry dirty. They keep pounding away the miles not wanting to let down the team the crew the supporters and people who give money for ADA and PSC. When they finish a climb segment they are SPENT, often apologizing they couldn't go farther as I hold their bike while they unclip and gasp for air. Minutes later they go right back out to help the other guy who is by then starting to wither. Back and forth this goes on 24-7. " I am updating the blog located here: http://adventuresforthecure12.blogspot.com/ They are @ 1400 miles into the race, in fourth place and heading into Plains, KS. I am excited at any rate - Money for PSC Partners, free publicity with millions of hits on the RAAM website and of course - bike racing!!! Guest guest
Mike, I think what you and your friends are doing is really awesome. I can't even imagine how they can manage this race in 7 days. I wish I could be there and personally cheer everyone on. -Marie Marie To: From: mike@...Date: Sat, 14 Jun 2008 15:53:18 -0400Subject: Adventures For the Cure Race Across America update It's a tough crowd on here on PSC-Support - Anyone else have any wordsof encouragement for the team?Leaving a comment on the blog is one easy way.Lee I passed on what you wrote and it was appreciated by all. Here is the latest report from Mechanic and Crew Chief, Merrill, former US Air Force Captain:"These guys are all like soldiers, tired hungry dirty. Guest guest
Thanks Marie and everyone else that wrote both on and off the list. I passed along every note to the support crew and they read the messages to the racers along the way at points where they needed inspiration. I was lucky enough to go out to Mount Airy at 3:00 AM Wed to the second to last time station and cheer them on in person. The crew was weary, but the riders were eager to finish. They finished in polis with a time of 6 days 13 hrs and 25 minutes for an average speed of 19.1 mph over 3008 miles. Although they were able to pull back several hours on 3rd place Team Cry, they could not catch them and placed 4th in the 4 man division. The past few days AFC duked it out with the British 8 man team United8. This was the team they met before the race started in CA that jokingly referred to their use on fixed gear bikes as "mental" The other comment they made about AFC's choice of fixed gear bikes was "At least we know there's one team we will beat ...." Adam, the T-1 diabetic used that comment as inspiration to put @ an hour of time into United8 in the hills of WV and held a lead on them all the way to polis. I managed to do a bunch of fundraising the past week and have donations directly for PSC Partners and others to AFC. AFC will be making a donation to PSC Partners from all the donations they collected. I don't have any ideas of the amounts. The guy that does their finances was crewing on the race trip and looked like he might sleep for three days straight so it will be a while before he has that organized. Here's the finish picture: http://adventuresforthecure12.blogspot.com/ Here's a slideshow from the race using this cool service on animoto.com http://adventuresforthecure12.blogspot.com/2008/06/reports-from-race-day-seven.html Mike Z Marie Nilsson wrote: Mike, I think what you and your friends are doing is really awesome.
