Guest guest
Deb- I've written about SAM-e, a natural substance for depression (made in every cell in our bodies) a few times on this board, but it bears repeating. Husband Fred (PSC 03/04, UC 03/06) has taken numerous antidepressants prior to his PSC diagnosis. He was a regular druggie. Drugs like: Wellbutrin, Prozac, Zoloft, Serzone, and Imipramine were prescribed at various times for major depression, suffered while he had undiagnosed PSC..He's also tried St. 's Wort, and continues to take fish oil (natural substance backed by research as effective against depression). Since February he's been taking 1600 mgs. of SAM-e per day, with doctor's approval. It not only has helped lift his depression, but has helped his UC as well. He was having regular UC flare ups, but the SAM-e calmed his brain, which calmed his gut, which calmed his butt. (At least we think that's what happened.) Do a search for " SAM-e " and/or " depression " in the PSC archives and you'll find much useful information. I wish you better days ahead Deb! Wife of Fred, PSC, 03/04, UC 03/06 .. Guest guest
Thank you very much , Marie and Lori for your responses. I went to my naturopathic doctor yesterday and started back on samE right away. I think that prescription anti-depressants are very effective, but I just wanted to make sure I had realistic expectations. I'm not sure if I'm quite at the prescription strength place just yet, so I really appreciate your help! I have been on samE before, so I'm not sure why I didn't think of trying it again first! I'll blame it on the PSC. Thanks again, Deb Alberta, Canada crohn's 1999 PSC 2006
