Guest guest
My hemoglobin got down to 8.2 a few weeks ago, and I'm not sure why. I'm on pretty high dose iron supplement now, and it's come up a bit so hopefully that will take care of it. So far no one has suggested that I need to get blood for it though. Like you I haven't seen any blood in my stool, but that's still the only place I can think of that I could be losing it. With all the meds I'm on and with the Epstein Barr virus I've got, who knows though. athan

Guest guest
Anemia (low hemoglobin) can be very complex. If it is not simply blood loss or iron deficiency, a more extensive examination is done and may involve seeing an oncology/hematology doctor. Guest guest
CJ, There is some reason for concern when your CA19-9 is going up, but it doesn't necessarily need to be cancer. In my case, when CA 19-9 went up to around 150 they performed an ERCP and a stent was inserted. The blood test performed the day after it showed improvement and I have been fine since removal of the stent in Jan 2006. My CA19-9 is safely in the normal, as are my other LFTs. Your climbing CA19-9 might be an indication of a blockage and if the doctors are so sure that you don't have cancer that would be my answer to the reason why your CA19-9 is climbing. I am no doctor of course. I am talking as a patient with experiences that seem to be close to what you describe. One person on this forum that did come down with CCA and a few months later passed away had CA19-9 values of 18.000. You are nowhere close to those numbers and in my humble opinion it is probably a (partial) blockage. I can't explain to you why a cancer marker would go up when your CBD is blocked, but maybe someone else on the forum can. In Feb. it was 46, June 70, July 84 and today I got my Aug. results and they were 103....I'm starting to get really concerned.....has anyone else had this happen to them.....I have had 3 ERCP's with Brushings and all my Brushings have come back neg. and 2 of the 3 brushings have had the FISH TEST done on them at Mayo in Minn. all have been negative and they have told me they are 95% sure I do not have cancer.....should I be starting to panic with this CA 19-9 climbing like this? Your thoughts on this will be greatly appreciated.... CJ
