Guest guest
Off hand I'd say your better off leaving your kids at home. They are more likely to be disstressed in a different surrounding, with their mom going off for verious test. Just contact them each night tell them how much you miss them and are looking forward too see them again soon, and give them the important task too pray the doctors will be able too figure out what is making their mom sick. Ian Well, I'm still at it trying to figure out what is wrong with me. My neurological symptoms are getting worse, fatigue worse, abdominal pain worse, etc.I had a CT done that showed a lesion on my right lung and lots of enlarged lymph nodes in my abdomen. This in addition the the PSC, anemia, raynaud's syndrom, numbness, pain, abnormal spinal tap, and they just don't know what to do with me. I am being sent to Mayo in Rochester. That's great because I'm going to be set up with Dr Lindor adn other docs. Has anyone been there beofre? What is it like? Where is a good/affordable place to stay? I will be there for 1-2 weeks at least. Should I take my kids and find a sitter there ro leave them home? This is all getting to be a little much. Any suggestions would be great. I'm just not sure what else to do. My hepa doc in Omaha isn't sure what is up either. I think he just doens't want to persue anythign else. I don't blame them. I should be better by now. Anyway, thanks if anyone can help at all. I'm scared and tired of this whirlwind. from NE -- Ian Cribb P.Eng.

Guest guest
, I've been up there twice in the last year. First time I stayed at the Courtyard Marriot, which is a pretty good location, nice, and reasonable, with very convenient parking. It seems to book up quickly. Last time I stayed at the Radisson...good location, connected to a nice little mall with a couple of good restaurants, convenient parking (extra), but a little pricey for what it was. Since I have to go back about 3-4 more times (a week each time) before the end of the year, I've decided to try and go on the cheap this next time(Sept. 6-13). I'm staying at the Days Inn, which is supposedly newly renovated and probably the closest to Mayo out of any of the places I stayed. I'll try to post when I get back and let everyone know how that was. I think it would be hard to figure out what to do with the kids during your appointments and don't know if Mayo has any resources for that...they might. Rochester is very walkable if you are feeling up to it. This time I'm not even renting a car and taking a shuttle for Minneapolis for like $35. It's a burden making these trips, but they really have been great up there. I'm open to anyone else's suggestions on places to stay. Best of luck, I hope it goes well for you. Jeff in FL I am being sent to Mayo in Rochester. That's great because I'm going to be set up with Dr Lindor adn other docs. Has anyone been there beofre? What is it like? Guest guest
We were just there in July. We stayed at the Residence Inn by Marriott and it was great. They have full kitchens and large rooms. They also have a great free breakfast everymorning, and three nights a week they have a dinner as well. They are connected to Mayo via the pedestrian subway. It is only about a block away so very easy walking. We really like it. I would definitely suggest leaving the kids at home. That is what we had to do, it was hard but having them there would have been even harder. Call them every night and it will be okay. It is much easier to focus on what is happening when you don't have the worry about taking care of the kids while you are there. As hard as it is to be away from them you will be able to focus on the task at hand. I wish you luck and if you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask. wife to Rick-crohn's, psc, spondyloarthropathy, gilbert's www.jaimeandrick.blogspot.com > > , > > I've been up there twice in the last year. Guest guest
-----Original Message----- I would definitely suggest leaving the kids at home. I’d like to throw in my 1½ cents…. IMHO a hospital/even a doctor’s office is no place for kids unless they are the patient. Sooo many germs, far too many infections and diseases floating around for them to catch. Ken & I both caught colds during this last hospital visit and we’re extremely cautious. Kids touch far too many things and germs lurk everywhere! Elevator buttons, door knobs, hand rails, it’s grossing me out just typing. If you can, leave kids at home and protect them from all that garbage. Plus, whenever a kid gets something they just have to share with their parents, and that’s not a good thing when one parent is already ill. Just my 1½ cents. Barb in Texas - Together in the Fight.... Guest guest
Mayo has special pricing for American Airlines, and also Northwest, so they can offer you reduced rates, and in an urgent situation, can get you a very good rate. It makes it alot easier to go into Rochester than flying into Minneapolis. There are shuttles back and forth to almost every hospital, so you do not need to worry about a car. Hotels that are 1 mile away are usually cheaper, but that is considered far in their words, since some hotels are connected underground via. the walking subway. The Kahler Grand is historic there, and is connected to Mayo, but is old, and not very up to date. Comfort wise its not the best cooling system, and usuable bathroom especially if you are having a procedure. But its very clean and convenient. We are staying at the Raddisson next time we go. > > Well, I'm still at it trying to figure out what is wrong with me. > My neurological symptoms are getting worse, fatigue worse, abdominal > pain worse, etc. > > I had a CT done that showed a lesion on my right lung and lots of > enlarged lymph nodes in my abdomen.
