Guest guest
Hi all, My son is working his way to an ER with pain in the upper abdomen when he breathes in. He doesn't have chills/fever/cola colored urine or clay colored stool. Has anyone had a cholangitis attack with just upper pain in the abdomen when breathing in? Thanks for any input. In the meantime , I am checking the flights for NY. Lee
Guest guest
Sorry, outside my experience. My cholangitis episodes were classic, with the exception of more centrally located pain (just below sternum vs. RUQ). I don't recall any breathing involvement. Hope Bill feels better soon. Guest guest
Hi Lee; So sorry to hear about Bill's upper abdominal pain when he breathes in. I once had this problem, and it turned out to be pleuritis (pleurisy) http://www.medicinenet.com/pleurisy/article.htm " Pleurisy is inflammation of the linings around the lungs (the pleura). There are two layers of pleura: one covering the lung (termed the visceral pleura) and the other covering the inner wall of the chest (the parietal pleura). These two layers are lubricated by pleural fluid. Pleurisy is frequently associated with the accumulation of extra fluid in the space between the two layers of pleura. This fluid is referred to as a pleural effusion. Pleurisy is also referred to as pleuritis. The pain fibers of the lung are located in the pleura. When this tissue becomes inflamed, it results in a sharp pain in the chest that is worse with breathing in, aka pleurisy. Other symptoms of pleurisy can include cough, chest tenderness, and shortness of breath. " I was just prescribed bed rest and aspirin as I recall. Hope that the doctors can track down the problem quickly and find a solution. Good luck, and best wishes, Dave R. > > Hi all, > My son is working his way to an ER with pain in the upper abdomen when > he breathes in. > He doesn't have chills/fever/cola colored urine or clay colored stool. > Has anyone had a cholangitis attack with just upper pain in the > abdomen when breathing in? > Thanks for any input. > In the meantime , I am checking the flights for NY. > Lee >
Guest guest
Lee, I hope that Bill is feeling better soon and they are able to figure out the cause in the ER. Guest guest
Thanks Dave,This is one of the things on the long list of things it might be.Still waiting for the Dr. to see him. Bill's bag is packed and we will see if it will be necessary for him to fly up there tomorrow.I hope not. Guest guest
Lee This happened to me last March. I had pain in the center of my chest, it hurt when I took a breath. I let it go for a few hours , took some tylenol and finally realized that if some one else told me about similar symptoms I would tell them to go to the ER. I did, they thought it was gerd and gave me some stuff to drink to kill the pain but it didn't work. They also scoped my stomach and did a MRI but found nothing. Finally during rounds, an intern mentioned it might be neuro-muscular. They sent me home, I went to the chiropractor and ---problem solved. I felt a bit foolish, but that is the way things happen sometimes. The docs said I did the right thing going to the ER. Take vare MizKit Get the MapQuest Toolbar. Guest guest
I hope Bill is OK now and that this episode was nothing serious.. This probably won't be much help, but I suffer from intercostle muscle strain. Basically hurts my chest when I breath in but after some shallow breathing it passes (within 5- minutes). a > > Lee > > This happened to me last March.? Guest guest
Thanks everyone for your replies. Bill spent six hours in the ER and finally the painjust got better without the Dr. ever making it in to see him. The fellow that saw himonly took some blood that showed his WBC count a little elevated. He is supposed to call his Dr. today. So this pain passed and we still don't even knowwhat it was. Let's just hope it stays "gone" !Maybe he had a little stone that passed, maybe it had something to do with his pouchitis, maybe like MizKit says it was neuro-muscular or muscle strain as a has had.Hopefully it had nothing to do with blood clots, his tulip filter or lung problems like pleurisy. Thanks again everyone.LeeI hope Bill is OK now and that this episode was nothing serious..This probably won't be much help, but I suffer from intercostle muscle strain. Guest guest
Hi Lee, So glad to hear that Bill’s crisis seems to have passed. Hopefully it won’t reoccur…. Guest guest
Thanks Ricky,We still don't know what is up, but while the pain is less , it is still there. He is working anyway and waiting to hear from the Dr.Yesterday it was bad enough for him to miss rehearsal and want to go to the ER.Not high on his list of things to do, so a considerable amount of pain.So we wait, and maybe it was pouchitis, maybe something else.LeeHi Lee, So glad to hear that Bill’s crisis seems to have passed. Guest guest
I had something similar. I found for about a month I gradually got more and more pain in my chest, to the extent breathing was painful and when I sneezed, felt like i had been punched really hard, unbelievable pain. Was worse in the morning. Eventually it wore off and have not had it since. Doc did an ultrasound and xray and revealed nothing. May have been a complication of the biopsy (although that was a few months before). I dont think so. I think it is just inflamation flaring up in different places, as I get transient pains in the colon as well. I hope this helps. Guest guest
Sorry, I should have said the pain was mainly right sided and radiated from my diaphragm round (and through) to just inside my spine. > > Kev > > M39, UC, Fatty Liver, Abn LFT's >
