Guest guest
Hey Gang, I know it's been quite some time since I've posted, but Bill Wise's condition has brought me back for a visit. I spoke with Becky yesterday, a couple of times, and she took me through the story of how Bill landed in their local hospital with pancreatitis. Until that point I didn't realize that he was local, rather than at University Hospital where he is listed for transplant. During our conversation she realized that the docs were only concerned with the pancreatitis and hadn't mentioned the cholangitis that he's been suffering with for three weeks, which got him the ERCP and ultimately pancreatitis. Bottom line is...the doctor didn't realize until today that Bill had cholangitis and that the ERCP had revealed a complete blockage (no dye was able to get through). So Dr. Senis (sp?) contacted Bill's hep. Dr. Lucy immediately after becoming aware of the situation and he was transferred to University Hospital this afternoon. Whew!!! The transplant team will be looking at the whole picture, and I'm sure they'll address the blockage and recalculate his MELD score - which most likely has gone up during this episode. As I said, Bill had a very rough few weeks prior to the ERCP, with both intense fatigue and itching and was prescribed Rifampin, which gave him some relief with the itching. Currently, he is experiencing quite a bit of pain and is still on a Morphine pump, although today the doc says his pancreatic enzymes (namely his Lipase) and other labs (what exactly I'm unsure of) are coming down - nearly in normal range. Due to the amount of Morphine Bill hasn't been able to advocate for himself like he typically would, and Becky is getting a crash course in the unexpected " oh crap " PSC junk. Becky is also sick with a terrible sore throat and trying to manage three active children, work, and care for Bill so please keep her in your prayers, as well as Bill, and the rest of the family. I will post more when I know more. I plan to call Becky and check on her frequently. Thanks for the prayers and well wishes, I know that Bill and Becky greatly appreciate them! Sincerely,
