Guest guest
LOL I don't know if he can sit a plate on his belly or not. But my inlaws were here Saturday for my stepdaughter's birthday and my mother-in-law was laughing at him because he was sitting on the couch and he had his hand resting on his belly like you see pregnant women doing a lot of times. He only weighs 120, well, when he's NOT filled with fluid that is. He weighed himself the other night and he weighed 127.5. That's the most he's ever weighed in his entire life. (Believe me, as a woman who has battled obesity my entire adult life, I'd like to kick him at times BUT I'd rather be heavy and healthy than thin and unhealthy.) Like I said in response to someone else's response, I don't think they numbed him when they did took the sample last year so now he's paranoid about it. His transplant coordinator was supposed to make some calls to our local hospital and call me back. The hospital his hepatologist is at is about an hour away and he works at our local hospital. I haven't heard back from her yet. I may just hog tie him and drag him kicking and screaming in there. Can they give you a Rx for Lasix? That's what he was on in the hospital but they wouldn't send him home with any because of his blood pressure. It usually runs pretty low. Guest guest
It is totally appropriate to request/demand that the skin be numbed before needle placement for paracentesis. The physician should confirm that easily and relieve the anxiety, as paracentesis typically does not cause alot of pain. Joanne H (, Ca) . ... Guest guest
Well all of this is a moot point now. The fluid is no longer really in his abdomen. It's moved to his legs. I spoke to his transplant coordinator today who called our local hospital where he works and arranged for him to have an xray to see how much fluid is in his abdomen. The dr said he actually has very little fluid in his abdomen and where it's at, it's not safe to go poking around with a needle. He's supposed to have an ultrasound or something or other tomorrow to rule out blood clots in his legs. They're trying to figure out why his legs and feet are so swollen. You can't even see the bones in his feet or ankles. Thanks for all of the advice though. > > It is totally appropriate to request/demand that the skin be numbed before > needle placement for paracentesis.
