Guest guest
Just be very careful of liver toxicity. Herbs, supplements and probiotics are not tested as prescriptions medicines are tested, and some can cause severe liver toxicity (i.e. shut down the liver). And of course some prescription meds can cause liver toxicity. You should let your hepatologist know about ALL medications you take, including prescription meds, over-the-counter meds, probiotics, herbs & supplements. I have heard a pharmacist (at the UCLA liver seminar) say that drinking herbal teas should be okay since herbal teas are usually dilute enough to not cause harm. Other things to avoid are alcohol and strong cleaning solutions and other strong chemicals (i.e. garden poisons). Fumes are chemicals that you're breathing in - so be careful of those.Marie To: ; pscmoms From: lilstef23@...Date: Sun, 5 Oct 2008 17:36:53 -0400Subject: Natural Remedies Is anyone trying to use natural remedies, herbs, supplements, probiotics etc instead of medications?New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your destination. Guest guest
MarieI could not agree with you more. I gave to point out that while I deal with PSC and UC I have seen many MDs that for no better reason than a lack of knowledge the doctor would say better not take that herb or supplement. When I changed doctors and I began seeing a university based, reasearch focused hepatologist, he was very clear on what was harmful and what we beneficial. He even encouraged me to take the beneficial supplements which I mentioned. Shaul Just be very careful of liver toxicity. Guest guest
's last ercp was dec 2006 when he was diagnosed. dr. kowdely believes in doing them about once every three years- risk of problems from ercp not worth doing them so often- dr. kowdely was very involved with urso study and worked with dr. lindor at mayo. originally he put him on urso and told us at the time the study is showing that it isn't doing to much. a couple months ago we went back to dr. kowdely and he said to stop taking it. it is vey expensive and not showing any benifit. he said not to be surprised if the levels elevate a bit but not to be concerned. alex's blood is checked every three months..vitamin deficiency is checked. with psc increased risk of bone loss. thank god alex is feeling great. he runs and does bikraham yoga. dr. kowdely told him to eat protein and a balance diet. he drinks goji juice every day, takes probiotics and what evervitamins he needs based on blood test. -rachel > > > > > > Is anyone trying to use natural remedies, herbs, supplements, > > probiotics etc > > > instead of medications? > > > > > > > > > > > > **************New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your > > destination. > > > Dining, Movies, Events, News & more. Guest guest
Hi,I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis but this group is fabulous. I also can't stress enough the importance of finding a doctor who is an expert in Psc. When we found our doctor it made a huge difference. believes very strongly in hot yoga for keeping him healthy. He does hot yoga 3 times a week and runs 3 days. drinks Total Goji..2ounces in the morning and 2 ounces in the afternoon. He takes probiotics, omega three fish oil vitamins, milk thistle. He has blood test every 3 months. We wish you good health and let me know if there is anything else I may be able to help with. - mishapog20 wrote: Hi , I am very glad to hear that your husband is doing so well. Guest guest
> > Can I ask what is " hot Yoga " From http://yoga.about.com/od/bikramyogahotyoga/a/bikram.htm Hot Yoga is a series of yoga poses done in a heated room. The room is usually maintained at a temperature of 95-100 degrees. As you can imagine, a vigorous yoga session at this temperature promotes profuse sweating which rids the body of toxins. It also makes the body very warm, and therefore more flexible. Living yoga master Bikram Choudhury is a Hot Yoga innovator. His method of Hot Yoga is a set series of 26 yoga poses, including two pranayama exercises, each of which is performed twice in a single 90 minute class. Guest guest
Bikrams hot yoga is yoga for an hour and a half and the room temperature is 115 degrees. I tried it too. I thought I would hate the heat but it actually felt good. > > > > > > Is anyone trying to use natural remedies, herbs, supplements, > > probiotics etc > > > instead of medications? > > > > > > > > > > > > ************ **New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your > > destination. > > > Dining, Movies, Events, News & more. Guest guest
, Try Eden http://www.edenteva.co.il/lhe/apage/5511.php or any other health food store in your neighborhood. I don't know what to call it in Hebrew either but my experience is that this kind of exotic stuff is sold under the English name. A friend of mine has a Chinese health clinic in Israel. Maybe he knows where to get this kind of stuff. http://www.mirpaa-sinit.com/ A more complicated way would be to contact manufacturers and see if they have distributors in Israel or if they are prepared to ship it to Israel. Guest guest
Hi Richel.. Looks like I can get that Goji juice in my area after all. Do you think that that is what makes the difference for your Husband? I am also trying to find a probiotic called Primal Defense Ultra by Garden of life but as far as I know it can't be found in Israel. I jog and take vitamins as well. I'm trying desperately to find some alternative stuff to help me. I visited a lot of good doctors that absolutely can't help me so I am trying anything possible. (and ursolit doesn't help me much). Also I would like to note that I am a member of this group for only about a week and you guys already helped me SOO much. Thank you all and god bless you! > > > > > > > > Is anyone trying to use natural remedies, herbs, supplements, > > > probiotics etc > > > > instead of medications? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > **************New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your > > > destination. > > > > Dining, Movies, Events, News & more. Guest guest
we believe the goji is good for overall health. total goji is from the berry no added concentrates and high in anti-oxidants. vsl#3 probiotic is excellent. our dr. said to stay fit, eat healthy..protein..enjoy life..vitamins are good. get your blood checked regularly. if you are feeling good that is best indicator. -rachel mishapog20 wrote: Hi Richel..
