Guest guest
Bobbi, I personally do not have portal hypertension, and I am no doctor, but what I understand is that when the liver is hardened because of cirrhosis, more pressure is needed to insert blood into the liver through the portal vein. Portal hypertension can also cause enlargement of the spleen and varices. So one of the nurses that saw my hubby when he was in the hospital mentioned something about portal hypertension. I've looked it up on the internet and the symptoms seem pretty spot on for what he's been going through. So, what can YOU tell me about it? I'd rather hear about it straight from the horses mouths so to speak, rather than read about it from the Mayo Clinic web site. TIA Bobbi
Guest guest
Thanks! Sounds pretty consistent with his recent symptoms. When he was in the hospital last week his spleen was 21 cm-normal is 11. > > Bobbi, > > > > I personally do not have portal hypertension, and I am no doctor, but what I > understand is that when the liver is hardened because of cirrhosis, more > pressure is needed to insert blood into the liver through the portal vein. > Portal hypertension can also cause enlargement of the spleen and varices. > > > > Regards, > > > > Chaim Boermeester, Israel > > > > _____ > > From: [mailto: ] On > Behalf Of Bobbi > Sent: Tuesday, October 14, 2008 19:44 > To: > Subject: What can you tell me about portal hypertension? > > > > So one of the nurses that saw my hubby when he was in the hospital mentioned > something > about portal hypertension.
