Guest guest
I just wish my mom were able to go. I'm single, so I have my brother or sister-in-law with me when I see the hepatologist.Marie To: From: cgkueter@...Date: Wed, 14 May 2008 20:26:22 +0000Subject: Taking my mommy with me! My husband can't go to my f/u appointment next week, and I really want to have another set of ears in the room with me for my appointment with Dr. Pratt, so my mom is going with me. I feel a tad silly, at 40, bringing my mommy, but I figure if I miss anything, hopefully she will catch it. And she knows the drill, as she used to be very involved with my UC appointments when I was underage. Guest guest
No matter how old you are, doctors should know better than to mess with a mom! She sounds great! BTW, my husband always had to go with me to appointments since the damage to my ears from the gentamicin was enough to prevent me from driving for well over a year. He'd sit quietly with me in the exam room calmly reading a copy of any legal newspaper with a malpractice headline. Hee hee. Guest guest
I just wanted to let you know that I am 31 years old, newly diagnosed. I have a husband who works alot in the summer, and with me on diability we need his money, SO my mom is ALWAYS my dr. partner. Moms know what to ask, and moms are worried like everyone else, and because this is newish to me, I kinda lose track of what the dr. is saying, sorry ADD, but also having my mom there gives peace of mind to those who worry, like my aunt, uncle, cousins, dad, grandpa, grandma....she pays attention and is able to update everyone more accurately. Yes this disease scares her, but it terrifies me, so I need a rock, and when my husband is working hard for our money, i have somelse to lean on. It is a mother's love, doesn't seem strange at all, it is a great idea.leedeubert wrote: Very awesome. Guest guest
Penny My mom was a state representative for 8 years (4 terms) and ran unopposed for 3 of those 4 terms. She is the original 800 pound gorilla -- and everyone knows that old saw about where an 800 pound gorilla sits! Guest guest
My mom has really been a huge help. She and my stepfather (my dad passed away 10 years ago) took care of our little ones when I had my biopsy. And I understand your struggle -- we are a family of four living on one income, plus whatever income I can earn working part time from home. I'm finding it so hard to do these days. Being a mom to young children plus feeling so run down from my PSC, plus attempting to earn some extra money -- it isn't easy trying to keep all the plates spinning. I hate that part of this, as I used to have more energy than I knew what to do with. Feeling this tired makes me feel like such a loser and like I am letting everyone down. It is hard for me to admit that I just can't do it all and keep myself well. Colleen > when my husband is working hard for our money, i have somelse to lean on. Guest guest
This is extremely important to have an advocate with you. I've been fortunate to have my wife there for every (important) time. We're not always in a " condition " to understand/comprehend everything that's communicated; we're pretty hard on our caregivers as it is, but I (for one) am VERY appreciative! Guest guest
Arne I think this is why my mom offered to go with me -- not so much to advocate for me (the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree -- I can be a pain in the you-know-what!) but to listen to everything. I've definitely been compartmentalizing this and keeping Jens out of the loop. But that isn't going to work very well from here on out. Jens is going to have to go with me to some of these appointments so he knows my staus as well as I do. I guess this is where the " for better or worse " part of the vows kicks in. I felt nothing but being blessed to have her there. She went through 2 liver transplants, comas, 3 months at hospital and was there everyday. Being my caregiver she helped me keep track of pills and was there everytime!! Don't feel silly feel blessed that you too have a Mom that is willing to do everything with you. a good support team is what you need. My prayers are with you.
