Guest guest
RUQ/URQ pain, in my experience can range from a dull achy feeling (sludge blockage) to unrelenting pain, radiating around to the back. My " sludge blockage " pain was always more centrally located (just below the sternum) until it got to the point that I needed to be admitted; it moved over to the right more. Gallbladder " attacks " , on the other hand (for me) were clearly URQ. It started out as chronic dull/achy and progressed to chronic, unrelenting, excruciating pain. Over all the years of gymnastics, track, football, diving, cycling, running, canoeing - I've never pulled or strained anything that resulted in pain in that area. Sure shows how different we all are. My sludge pain was RUQ and centrally located. The gall bladder pain was right below the sternum. Like you I had never pulled a muscle in the RUQ area til post tx. In the last month I've pulled muscles on both the left and now the right side. It's sort of scary especially concerning the right sided muscle pull because I wasn't sure if it was liver related only or a muscle pull caused by the cold I had. I guess my muscles had degenerated so much pre tx that they are looking for any excuse to cause me pain. I've over the cough now and will hopefully heal in the next few weeks. And Arne, I'm glad you didn't get the big hail. Plants can be replaced especially this early in the season but bigger hail can cause much more serious damage - broken windows and ruined roofs which are much more expensive. Guest guest
Hey Genevieve My RUQ pain is more in my back -- I find I press my right hand into the area of where the bottom of my bra is -- the counterpressure makes the feeling less irritating. For me, it feels as though I have one thing too many tucked under my ribcage -- like a small stone inside a sock -- I know that sounds crazy, but it is the best way I can describe it. It is never a very sharp or sever pain, but the constant ache gets to me after a while. I do get this weird pain from time to time -- I think it is when I get a big glop of sludge moving through my stricture -- the best way I can describe that is it feels like an electrical current zapping me. It is a very disconcerting feeling and makes me knees buckle a bit when it happens. I was crossing a parking lot and carrying Fritz the last time it happened. I nearly dropped him, it felt so awful. Guest guest
Hi Genevieve My URQ pain has always followed a similar pattern: Starts with tingling just behind the bottom of my rib cage on the right side. Then it radiates outward towards my sternum and intensifies. Eventually it feels like someone is carving the Christmas turkey through my insides and twisting the blade for good measure. Then it subsides and mostly mirrors the way it started. All told it lasts about 30 minutes for the worst part of it but can go on for hours with a dull ache (i.e, sorta like someone is using me for a punching bag). Afterward, I feel wasted and the area is tender for about a day. Usually I feel nauseous as well so I tend to eat very little when it happens. The first time I ever felt it I was in my early- to mid-20s. Of course, I'd recently taken a course in CPR and guess what I thought I was having... Foolishly, I never had it checked until after my PSC diagnosis as the frequency has always been so inconsistent with bouts far and few between (easily 6-12 months apart), I honestly thought it was food related and just a case of really bad stomach upset. Naturally, any meds I took for GI upset did nothing My most recent bout was last month and that was the first time since I started taking URSO over a year ago.
