Question for everyone, is asthma pretty usual with people who have PSC

and UC? Doctors are telling us to now get rid of all our animals (cat

and dog) due to asthma problems, mind you these are ER doctors who know

NOTHING about PSC and/or UC. From posts that I've read from back in

2002 it sounds like asthma is part of having PSC and UC. Have several

air purifiers running, vacuuming and cleaning regularly and also

keeping ALL animals out of our bedroom (door always shut). Any other

ideas? Really hate to get rid of our pets!!!!

This is the first I've heard of asthma being another component of the lovely

world of PSC/UC.

No allergies around here (touch wood) except for Jens with some seasonal stuff.

We have a

dog (Shiba Inu) who loses fur like no tomorrow, and used to have two cats.

Like Arne, we have hardwood floors. I wonder how much asthma and allergies are

aggravated

by wall-to-wall carpeting? I've never lived with it.

Arne,

This is weird. Your list includes just

about every disorder possible in my direct family. My sister has UC, my mother

has asthma, my father has eczema, my mother has spinal degeneration and I have

PSC. The only thing that you do not mention is epilepsy (my sister and I used

to have that).

It's fairly common to have multiple autoimmune diseases, not

just for PSCers. Asthma is just about an epidemic now. I have (in

order of occurrence), UC (sulfasalazine), asthma (Singulair is a godsend),

eczema (controlled with just lotion), spinal degeneration (one surgery, 12

years ago), PSC (urso, SAM-e, milk thistle, fish oil).

We still have all our pets (cats, dogs, horses) - got the

same recommendation (from an allergist). The bathroom door IS closed! I

wash my hands every time I touch them, and use a mask with the horses, if

necessary (you'll know). We also don't have many rugs left, use a high

efficiency vacuum, and have a whole house humidifier (cold, dry air is my

trigger).
