monoclonal spike

Does anybody know what a lab test for monoclonal spike is and what it

means if it shows a spike. I can't figure it out from what I am

reading on the internet. I would be grateful for any help with this.

Hi Dawn;

Without seeing the entire lab report, I can only speculate that the

term " monoclonal spike " might be referring to the occurrence of an

abnormal amount of a single immunoglobulin (monoclonal spike, or M

component) found in MGUS (Monoclonal gammopathy of unknown

significance), a fairly common, benign condition:
