My doctor has recommended 180mg iron per day to raise my ferritin. He suggested I take it as a single dose just before bed with 1000 mg Vitamin C (the idea is to take it on an empty stomach which contradicts what is stated on the bottle, which says take with meals). Has anyone compared taking their iron as a single dose on an empty stomach versus divided across 3 meals or divided in some other way? Would appreciate knowing what success others have had with different kidns of dosing schemes.

I used to take it all at one time after dinner, so it was away from my meds. I

think it is recommended to split it up so that it absorbs better, but if you use

the BlueBonnet form, iron bisglycinate, it is almost guaranteed to absorb. I got

my iron from 20 to 90 taking it once a day, but it still took FOREVER, probably

as I was so hypo and not on thyroid meds, so the iron wasn't sticking around.
