Dear Margery

Does anyone know why for some people Armour leads to increased

rT3, and for some, it’s not a problem at all? Haven’t the doctors figured out

yet who will and who will not respond in a good way to Armour?

Hi! I started on Cytomel on Sat., and like you, I felt a small surge of energy on Sunday/Monday. But Tuesday - today even though my temps have gone up a little bit, from averaging 98.0 to 98.2, I'm so exhausted! I could hardly lift my head off of the pillow today! I wish someone could answer this. Because with you it's on Armour and with me, it's t3, Cytomel. Maybe our cells are sucking it up too fast, and draining HC? Diane says that I THINK....thyroid uses up cortisol. Maybe they're so starved that it will take a little while to fill the ones that aren't blocked by rt3 up? Just speculating. Would rather have a moderator give us an answer! ;)

Blessings to you!

I'm still waiting for my cortisol test results, the doctor did indicate I may

need HC in addition to the Armour..

Interesting comment about the body 'sucking up too fast'...my understanding (and

hopefully someone will correct if I'm wrong) is that the thyroid medication

doesn't build up in the cells...

The fact that my body temp has risen, but is still below normal at least makes

me feel the Armour is having some effect...one of my concerns is that if I up

the dosage (currently taking 60mg or 1 grain) in order to increase the T3, it

will raise the RT3 (due to the additional T4...does that make sense?)

" Some people can still take SOME Armour and still reduce RT3 but others need to

go completely off anything with T4 in it. This is the only way I know to get rid

of RT3 is to remove it's prohormone which is T4. "

From Val's post:

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/message/21884

I have not been able to find a Dr. who will treat me with T3-only, although I am

still looking. In the meantime, I have had to self-treat.

Have you read Nick's great RT3 website? Here's the link:

For many on this group, increasing Armour will increase RT3. You are right,

more Armour equals more T4, which may be converted into more RT3.

Yeah, I would think I'd want to get off of the dessicated thyroid, too. I have felt so bad with the air hunger that I don't want to take any chances on reversing any more t3 than I have to. If I didn't have this debilitating symptom I might be willing to experiment, but not so for me now! I WAS on Naturethroid when I started reversing!>> I was

i dont know anything about T3 meds but i have some experience with armour and NT...when you start taking armour most likely your dosage was only enough to halt the pituitary from producing TSH so in other words it was enough to stop stimulating your thyroid to make more hormones but NOT enough to provide you with enough of the thyroid hormones..so at this point you are usually advised to raise your armour dosage until you start to feel better...it is common from what i have seen for a doc to start someone on armour dose that is too low to pick up slack after loosing the TSH stimulation...so raise your armour dose....we went up slowly ...up about 1/2 a grain every week or so.....good luck
