To Chelle re doctor

Hi Chelle,I hope your appt with the dermatologist goes well and you don't need to see Dr. . As you said, it is expensive. My first visit was $520 or $560, can't remember but that was because of lab tests that were added. The next one when I saw the assistant was $220.On the third visit I got a credit because they realized that they overcharged by about $50 on the first visit!Dr. is the president of the National Vulvodynia Association and goes to many conferences etc. all over the world. After reading posts on this list I realize that she does do some things differently than some other doctors. Probably because she has seen so many patients and sees what works. For instance, some people only take minimal amounts of amitriptyline or some other anti-depressent while she encouraged me to work my way up to higher dosages...until I felt better. She also said that I might want to try Estrace while some doctors don't. Her practice has a research division and I believe they do physical therapy as well.I haven't seen her in a year and a half and have been getting my prescriptions from my gynecologist who did his internship with a vulvar specialist. But I am only taking hormones now.He also suggested using topical testosterone to toughen up the skin in that area. I have that compounded in a non irritating base. I do believe that it has helped.Good luck Chelle. To everyone: dealing with the emotions of having this awful affliction is really important to helping you to get better. Anyone who would like to contact me privately about how I dealt with all of it is welcome to.Diane
