Guest guest
There are so many questions I have. We have a list for the doctor but we don't go until Oct 17. I have been reading all the posts here and it seems the consensus is low fat? Does that help prevent cholangitis attacks and protect the liver or is it just to " stay healthy " ? I kinda seem to be in denial still. I had that pinching kind of pain under my right breast along with chills and itching starting Friday, and had picked up a nightshift overtime so I was tired anyway, but seemed to try to ignore it. It continued all weekend. With the urging from my wonderful husband, I called the GI and he said it sounds like a bout of cholangitis and started me on Cipro. So I'm not as invincible as I want to think and guess I need to pay attention to my body instead of denying it. But did I do this to myself by eating grilled burgers and mac and cheese on Friday night with my family or is this what I'm to expect? I have a high pain tolerance or I like to think I do so the pain wasn't something that bothered me as much as the itching? What does everyone take for that? I am so afraid to take anything and haven't been to Hep Dr yet to ask. The itching wasn't severe, I have had it severe before, but it was enough that I felt I needed something to help relieve it.I don't know, I guess all the questions are starting to pour out and no amount of research online seems to answer or be able to answer all of them. There aren't any answers for PSC is what I am coming to realize, but I am hoping to rely on the experience of those who have gone through this too to ease my nerves. Guest guest
, Sorry to see you hadn't gotten a response yet, but here's my input for what it's worth. I've adopted a low fat diet simply for the sake of my own comfort. I've never had a high fat meal actually trigger a bout of cholangitis and frankly, I don't think it would unless there were already an underlying blockage somewhere, but there is a direct correlation between my fat intake and the level of my itching. My hep recently prescribed me Rifampin (an old-school TB and Leprosy med) at 300 mg once a day and it has given me pretty dramatic relief from the itching. Hope this helps.
