Guest guest
Kim, They removed my gallbladder in 1989 with a full open surgery (at the same time they removed my bile duct outside they liver and replaced it with a section of bowel). I have done relatively well in the last 19 years (better in the last 9 years, since starting URSO). Ian (52) PSC 89 Those of you have had their gallbladder removed, has it caused you any problems? Were you able to have it removed by laparoscope or did you have to have undergo the full open surgery?-- Ian Cribb P.Eng.
Guest guest
Cholestectomy for Gallstones Hi Kim I had my gallbladder out in 2006 after 2 yrs of "attacks' It was laproscopic no difficulties the day before the surgery I had a huge stone and sludge removed from my common bile duct by my Gi guy per an ERCP this was all before the PSC diagnosis. I had at that time a hemangioma on my liver per an ultrasound, and i was told by the Gi guy I didn't need to worry about it.The surgeon never mentioned it so I don't know if he was aware or not.I have not had any problems with the surgery and I have not had the horrible pain attacks that I had before. Guest guest
An alternative to surgery is to take URSO to dissolve the stone. I had a stone 2.2 by 2.9cm which is slowly dissolving away. Guest guest
Hi Kim, I also did not have to change anything in my diet after laparoscopic cholestectomy (and I did/do not have a low fat diet). The first few weeks I was careful and then I performed a " medical experiment " with pizza, cheesecake and whipped cream. I understand that as a rule of thumb most " elective " cholestectomies are laparoscopic, and most acute cholestectomies are open surgery. Regards, Chaim From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of thecolonialcrow Sent: Monday, August 04, 2008 17:30 To: Subject: Cholestectomy for Gallstones Hi, I had an ultrasound recently of liver, gallbladder and pancreas. The findings showed a 1cm gallstone. I was referred to a surgeon who I saw this morning, to discuss possibly having my gallbladder removed. Also in the ultrasound findings regarding my liver were: " The liver is normal in size. Within the hepatic parenchyma adjacent to the gallbladder, there is a homogenously hyperechoic 1.2cm nodule. Within the hepatic dome, there is 1.7cm homogenously hyperechoic nodule. These nodules are most compatible with benign cavernous meningiomas. " The surgeon is hesitant to remove my gallbladder due to my liver condition as it could cause me problems in the future. I see my hepatologist tomorrow and the surgeon would like him to call or write regarding his views. Those of you have had their gallbladder removed, has it caused you any problems? Were you able to have it removed by laparoscope or did you have to have undergo the full open surgery? I am not quite sure I am understanding what could happen. Thanks for any input!
