Guest guest
I was diagnosed with Interstitial Pulmonary Fibrosis in May 2005. I have a cronic dry cough, and nothing seems to help it. I'm unable to take any medications that have steroids, because it makes my blood sugar go over 500, and it's difficult to bring it down to the normal range. So the only thing I can do is be on oxygen 24 hours a day. I read a posting on another site that PF can cause memory problems because oxygen doesn't get to the left side of the brain. I'm not talking about just losing my keys. I do some things that I don't remember why I was doing it. I say things in a conversation that were already said. I seem to go in and out this " fog " where I don't know what's going on around me. I stopped driving because of it. I also am HIV+ and my doctor has officially said that I have HIV related dementia. He tells me I need to stimulate my mind. I do try. I have an appointment with him in February and will be discussing these situations. My question is.....does anyone else have memory probelems relating to Pulmonary Fibrosis? Thank you!
Guest guest
You can have some memory issues as a result of too little oxygenation as a part of overall fatigue. The key is using your oximeter and maintaining your oxygenation at a satisfactory level. Now, I like to blame all my memory losses on oxygen deprivation but we have them for so many reasons including just getting older and absent mindedness sometimes in my case. They can actually do a battery of tests to determine the part of the brain with the functional problem. The left part is often a result of depression or anxiety too. I would think in your condition you've encountered one or both of those. Frontal lobe is more likely neurological in nature. What you describe sounds much like concentration from fatigue, mind wandering, many causes and it can be helped if that's the case. There are online exercises and puzzles. Locally here the senior centers even have weekly classes for such. So, I couldn't tell you the cause. Talk to your doctor. But, also, ask for advice on mental exercises to help you. > > I was diagnosed with Interstitial Pulmonary Fibrosis in May 2005. I > have a cronic dry cough, and nothing seems to help it.
