Guest guest
My son has been on xifaxan for about a year and will likely be on it indefinitely. He has short gut (3/4 of his small bowel missing) and has no ileocecal valve and CVID common variable immune deficiency) so he has a bad combination of problems causing major issues with small bowel bacterial overgrowth. Anyone know of any long term effects of xifaxan ? does it lose it's effectiveness after a while ? Any other similar drugs that work that we could rotate w/ the xifaxan ? It's good that it is not absorbed systemically and stays in the GI tract unlike a lot of the other antibiotics he takes so I am really hoping that he can be on it and it work for him for a long time.
