Why are you on Coumadin? Do the spots only come on your ankles and

feet? Do your ankles or feet swell?

Ian,

Just wondering, since sometimes pt's who have heart valve issues

going on will get this time of " rash " on their arms/legs from the

blood cells bursting from the trauma. This does not sound like your

problem. If they " spread " to other area's of your body I would check

in with your doc and of course watch your INR.

Good Luck,

Hi Ian

I used to take Coumadin until I was diagnosed with UC and then the

relative risk of bleeding outweighed the advantages of continued

anticoagulant therapy so it was stopped.

In any event, I also had reddish-purplish spots on or around my ankles

and going up almost mid-calf while taking the Coumadin. I was told it

was iron deposits below the skin and not to worry about it. That was

more-or-less confirmed when I went anemic from the UC since all the

spots disappeared. I guess my body was trying to use up all remaining

iron stores.

Since I'm no longer taking the Coumadin, I've not seen any evidence of

the spots returning.
