No, McKay is not for people who do homeschooling. If you just google McKay, you can read all about it on the Florida State web site.

From 2000 when the McKay Bill passed until 2006 there were schools that provided

McKay funding for home school programs. In 2006 the FL Legislature passed SB256

to specifically end this option. The effort was led by Senator King of

ville. The law now reads that " students have to have regular and direct

contact with their teachers at the schools physical location. "

It seemed to really bother Senator King that there were a few dozen students,

most of them severely disabled, using this funding method. He was upset that tax

dollars were being used for " home schools. "

You can watch a video of how this played out here:

I think that now, with the Florida Virtual School providing students with a

regular diploma at taxpayer expense without ever stepping foot in a brick and

mortar school, that this law is discriminatory. Where is this option for

disabled students?

The only way to change this is through the Legislature, it might be time as

Senator King and the few Legislators that were opposed to this are no longer in

the Legislature.
