Guest guest
This is interesting.... My grandmother and my father both had cataracts pretty young, my brother and sister were both born with cataracts, I've had cataracts for a number of years (I'm 38) and both my son and my brother's daughter were born with cataracts. So it's definitely something that runs in the family. So far none of us have ended up with muscular dystrophy, so hopefully it's a different sort of cataract causing gene! I also found this: " Non-age-related cataracts might be caused by trauma to the eye, use of certain medications such as corticosteroids, exposure to radiation or ultraviolet light, or metabolic disturbances, such as diabetes. In addition, some people are born with cataracts. " here: http://healthlink.mcw.edu/article/956868358.html I know my cataracts got worse after only a couple months of prednisone post transplant, so if you've had to take steroids for your UC or something, that could be to blame, even if it wasn't for a long time. athan
