Guest guest
Hi Karina We chose it because we like unusual names (OK, was an aberration but neither of us had met a for years, and we weren't to know that every other 1998 parent of boys was going to go for it!). Also, I used to be asst. director of international relations (in charge of international students, basically) at UMIST, which has a really high number of Norwegian students, and I'd met a good few Freyas, all of whom were really pleasant young women, and I loved the name. I first came across it 19 years ago when my cousin Freya was born - she was named after Freya Stark the explorer, who was a fascinating woman. It is rising up the charts, namewise - I know *of* two or three others, of similar age to my Freya (17 months) - but fortunately haven't met any yet I like the myth very much, what I know of it, and would love to have a book of Norse mythology with stories about Freya, but can't find one in English - do you know of one?! Vicki Freya A Norwegian friend of mine has just decided to call her daughter 'Freya' (spelt in English for her father's benefit - but pronounced as in Norwegian 'Frøya' - the Nordic Goddess). We both thought is was a very, very Norwegian name, but then I just read that Kirsty Young has named her daughter Freya too. And now Vicki!! What made you choose this name, Vicki? It's lovely by the way...
