Dull pain on top of liver

I've been experiencing on and off again minimal/dull pain above my

liver/rib cage for the past couple of days. Is this something I

should get checked out at the student health center at my university?

Is there any chance it could be diet related as I haven't been eating

very healthy since returning from winter break? I've heard or sludge

buildups from high fat meals. Could it be stress related, I recently

lost my grandfather right before coming back to school and I'm just

worrying about a lot of stuff? Or could it be a problem from the

PSC? I have no other symptoms, no fever, no jaundice, no aches or

fatigue. My last blood work done in December was totally normal.

Thanks for the help.

Dear

,

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of

your grandfather recently. It is never easy loosing a loved one and then

having to go back to college with added stresses never helps.

My son is 20, away from home and in college

also. He experienced a similiar type of pain you described and also had

itching back in December right before his finals. He was under a great deal of

stress at the time and as soon as those things were behind him the pain and

itching subsided. This is not to say that what he experienced was from stress,

but it could have made it worse. If you are concerned about it, I would

suggest you go see someone at the health center…at least it would put

your mind at ease. If you decide not to go make sure you watch out for a fever,

eat as healthy as possible and try not to worry too much.

Best of luck to you and I hope you have a

successful semester.

Sounds like " sludge " to me. Not only high fat meals, but also lack of hydration could be the cause.

Stress can cause lots of different effects, and not drinking enough water could be one of them. I know I struggle to remember to drink enough when canoeing. For me, adequate hydration has helped.

Everytime I empty my bladder I try to drink about 250mls of water, it

gets a bit fraught until your bladder gets the idea. I have always

drunk lots of water as we are so lucky we have pure artesian water and

its so nice to drink, but since diagnoses I have made a concerted

effort to drink as much water as I can.
