Guest guest
-----Original Message----- If your drs. don't know something so basic…… Low platelets can be the result of many different things. To get to the root of the problem, a good doctor will usually rule stuff out one by one, rather than just assume the liver or spleen is the cause. Bone marrow can be damaged or a poor environment for the production of platelets. Medications can be the cause, as can anemia. An infection that hasn’t totally cleared up or a blood transfusion can alter platelets. Chemicals (even lawn care products) can cause a drop in platelets. There’s also a thing called “clumping” where platelets stick together. Labs use automatic platelet counters and if they are clumped together they can easily be misread. Please hang in there, I know being in the hospital is rough on the both of you, but it’s good they are trying to find the cause of his low platelets before something bad happens. Once they do, hopefully they can fix the problem ASAP and your husband (and you) will feel better fast. HTH Barb in Texas - Together in the Fight.... Whatever it Takes!
