Hi

I'm still learning but I think your FT3/RT3 ratio is

291/27= 10.7

Which is very bad as it needs to be above 20.

I would think you need to be on T3 only with this result. As T4 is the pro hormone for RT3 you need to stop taking T4 in any form I think I'm right in thinking that naturthroid contains T4.

However before doing anything getting a full iron panel is KEY as ferritin helps thyroid hormone to be properly utilized into the cells

Also an adrenal saliva test would be really helpful

Good luck

Josie

My doctor says I'm reversing. Labs from May 11 are as follows:Free T4 - 0.9 (range 0.8 - 1.8 ng/dL)Free T3 - 291 (range 230 -420 pg/dL)RT3 - 27 (range 11-32 ng/dL)TSH - 4.52 (mIU/L)B12 - 429 (range 200 - 1100)Thyroglobulin antibodies - 28 (<20 IU/ML)Total Cortisol - 19.3 (mcg/dL)Measured at 8:00 a.m. (Doctor says that adrenal fatigue is a "relative" cortisol deficiency, and that anxiety of the blood draw can make it go higher). How do you figure your t3/ft3 ratio? Help! I was ON (because I talked my old ND into it, 1/2 gr. Naturethroid before I crashed in March). My new doctor took me off of it two weeks ago because she thinks it may have caused my adrenals to go haywire. I was still on the Naturethroid on May 11 when the labs were drawn. I don't know my ferritin levels because she said we'd do that test later. Just need some good answers. Doctor says the best way to treat thyroid when rt3 is to correct underlying issue causing it. Could stress be the issue? Removing the t3/t4 combo? Get a free e-mail account with Hotmail. Sign-up now.

Thank you so much for your quick reply, Josie! I thought that was my ratio, but I wanted to be sure. I did do cortisol saliva test back in November, and these are the results:

Morning - 10.0 (range - 3.7 - 9.5)

Noon - 4.3 (range - 1.2 - 3.0)

Evening- 0.6 (range - 0.6 - 1.9)

Night - 0.5 (range - 0.4 - 1.0)

So I was high in a.m., and bottoming out at night in November. On the cortisol blood test I did a few weeks ago being at 19.3 (range 4.0 - 22.0), it looks like I'm dropping a little from the saliva testing, but still at the high end of the range for a.m. (But, I had started on HC the day before....had taken 5 mg that day, so don't know if that affected it or not). I have also been on a lot of adrenal support for the past two months. High doses of Vitamin C, Pandrenol, C-Support, Magnesium, Pro-biotics, a good multi, EFA fish oil, etc. I am waiting for my B-12 shots to come in, and in the meantime supplementing with sublingual B-12, 5000 mcg. My main symptom is shortness of breath, and the doctor seems to think that me taking the t3/t4 combo when my adrenals were in bad shape may have contributed to or caused this. Does anyone know how to tell if your adrenals are in good enough shape to add the Cytomel

in?

Does anyone know how to tell if your adrenals are in good enough shape to add the Cytomel in?

Yes you need to chart your temps like this

http://www.drrind.com/therapies/metabolic-temperature-graph

Your temps need to be stable i.e you take 3 readings in the day and take the average and plot that on a graph.

The average temps need to be within .2 of each other

Its probably best to join the adrenals group and people can help interpret these results for you and suggest what to take

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/

Cortisol issues can also cause high RT3

Good luck

Josie

I've been charting my temps a little differently, though. Using a regular thermo., from May 11 - today they have ranged from 97.4 - 98.1, but only one day it was 97.4. May 11 is the day I got off of Naturethroid completely. Today, so far I've taken temps twice, and both times they were 97.6 Don't adrenals swing up and down when they're in bad shape? If I were to start on Cytomel, would it hurt or help with the clearing of the rT3? I'm just so tired of being short of breath. My life is on hold.....can't do much with my husband, and having to work from home. I need relief so bad!

Thank you all for your answers, too! I so appreciate your taking the time to write me.
