Barb? Dave? Do you have a description of Lynch Syndrome? I am not familiar with it. Thanks!

Joanne H

(, Ca.., mom of , UC/PSC 2-06)

... . I am looking for info regarding a possible connection between Lynch Syndrome and PSC or UC ... I still have to be tested for the mutant gene that causes it. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks Jannsen

and Joanne;

Lynch Syndrome is a form of hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer

(HNPCC), caused by mutations in genes that encode proteins involved

in DNA repair:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/dispomim.cgi?id=120435

The most common causal mutations are in the MSH2 gene:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/dispomim.cgi?id=609309

and MLH1 gene:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/dispomim.cgi?id=120436

I am sorry but I do not know of any obvious link between Lynch

Syndrome and PSC or UC.

I think that the group has one member whose son has both PSC and

familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP):

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/dispomim.cgi?id=175100

but I don't recall any members indicating that they (or their loved-

ones) had Lynch Syndrome.

Best regards,

Dave

(father of (22); PSC 07/03; UC 08/03)
