Primos,

I see three doctors right now: a gastroenterologist (for my

colonoscopies), a heatologist (for my liver work, blood tests, etc.),

and a specialized gastroenterologist (specializes in the biliary tree)

for the ERCPs.

Your husband may not need three, but I would suggest seeing a

specialist. A gatroenterologist (GI) doc with an understanding

of/trainingin /history with PSC is definite must have. Also, your

husbands needs to see a hepatologist so the liver can be examined (via

blood test, biopsy if necessary).

How long ago was your husband diagnosed? How was the diagnosis

confirmed?

Hope this helps!

Tu'Fanza,

Your husband should be seen by a specialist, but get your family doctor to refer him and be kept in the loop (receive a report from the specialist). Although a specialist will be more familiar with his specialty (ie. the Liver) you want your family doctor to know what is going on because you still need to go him for non liver ailments (ie. skin rashes, headaches, etc.) and you want him to make sure nothing he does actually works against what the specialists is doing.

I have questions about the doctors and kind of doctors we should be seeing. I saw mention of a hepatologist and I am fairly certain my husband's doctor is just a regular doctor that specializes in internal medicine.

Should we be seeing a hepatologist? Is there any other kind of specialist we should see?I am trying to determine if their are doctors near us that have worked with patients with PSC becuase my husbands doctor now has not.
