Hey, all -

I'm new on board and in desperate need of the best hypothyroid/BHRT doc out here

on the west coast. I reside in Las Vegas but would consider anyone in the

western region.

I was considering Holtorf (LA clinic) until I read up on some of the posts here.

I still am unsure of the San Francisco clinic and his rep (Dr. Camilleri).

So, finding the doc for me is the first goal, and those in the know, please let

me know your first-hand experiences!

A little background:

Male, 50. I have most likely been hypo for decades, despite having led a very

stringent diet, exercise and supplementation regimen for all that time, and yet,

the hypothyroid issue has remained largely untreated with any consistency and

definitely devoid of aggressive Rx therapy. I struggled for 20 years with

chronic dysbiosis/candidiasis on/off and remained on Nystatin for 15 years until

I finally crashed in 2000. I briefly tried Armour around that time and it made

me wired, so I stopped. Now, I realize that was most likely because my adrenals

were imbalanced. Later, about 3 years ago, a doc tried me on some custom

compounded liothyronine and for the first time ever, my TSH was below 2.0 (I've

always averaged 3.0+) and I never felt " wired. " Unfortunately, my Rx ran out, I

tried to self-treat on my own with OTC supplements only. Unfortunately, my TSH

shot back up, and through recent extensive testing in the last 6 mos., I

discovered a whole host of newly-discovered nasty red flags that further support

an under active thyroid:

1) elevated reverse T3

2) elevated CEA*

3) elevated late pm cortisol

4) elevated ACE*

5) elevated ANA (SCL-70 antibody)*

6) thyroid nodule/cyst (less than cm; dx'd as benign)*

7) empty sella syndrome (pituitary gland shrinks or becomes flattened; dx'd as

benign since I do produce enough hormones)*

8) elevated helper/suppressor ratio (long-term)

9) IgG3 subclass deficiency (long-term)

*asymptomatic as far as I can tell

What I didn't know until I put in the research is that almost very one of these

flags are directly or indirectly associated with hypothyroidism, especially in

the area of autoimmunity and the inflammatory cascade, although I do not have

Hashi's (my TPO and other antibodies are normal). What I didn't realize until

the last few months is that I don't think there's ANY dysfunction or disease

that isn't somehow caused or correlated directly or indirectly via an

under-active thyroid! That's scary.

Regarding a doc, since I'm a fitness freak, I also need one that is entirely up

to date on the latest research in BHRT advancement for men.

In any case, I realize it sounds from that list I should be dead or close to it,

so I am hoping that those flags are only warning signs as I do not exhibit any

of the symptoms associated with those diseases (knock on wood), and that it's

not too late from the years of going untreated.

Again, I'd really appreciate giving me any info to assist me with finding

hopefully not just a good doc, but THE BEST.

Thanks
