Compared with patients who received placebo, sorafenib increased median survival by nearly 3 months, according to a study published in the July 24 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine. The median overall survival was 10.7 months for patients treated with sorafenib vs 7.9 months for those receiving placebo. The results of the study were initially presented at the 2007 annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and reported by Medscape Oncology at that time.
