Cindy,

I’d say “slap

it on me baby” and go for it! You

aren’t going to hurt your liver at this point and you’ll be in much

better shape for the surgery if you’re catching your zzzz’s at

night. Good luck, fingers

and toes crossed it works.

Cindy, I didn't use the patch for itching but rather for the broken ribs from the tx surgery. The patch worked great, made me sleep great also but I was told not to drive while on the patch. It would limit your mobility. Also if you do go on the patch watch its effectiveness over the 3 day period it is used for. The patch only worked 48 hours for me for some reason. I hope you can get some relief from your awful itching. Barby, I know I will have to go out on sickleave and

won't be able to drive until or IF I adjust to the

meds....do you know would this be a reason to apply

for disability if I'm always in stupor and can't work?

Cindy, The PSC itself qualifies you for disability. At least this is what I understand from when I applied with SSA. Maybe you could call SSA and find out what is required. But I would say also that not being able to drive due to needing the patch to control itching should definitely qualify you if for some reason you are told PSC doesn't qualify. I've been very impressed that you have been able to work for so long while struggling with the itching. You are amazing! Blessings, Barby

Could you not drive because of the patch or because of the broken

ribs? (Or from recovering from surgery)Is this patch diffent than the

ones used for those who use it for help with not smoking? Otherwize

those who are using it to quit smoking would not be able to drive!?

Cindy, I was on a Duragesic narcotic pain patch for @5 months for a never ending case of pancreatitis. I don't know what dose they will have you on but I was able to drive and work without problems once I went down to a lower dosage. I started out at 50 mcg and then stepped down to 25 and then to 12.5. On 50 I was constantly tired and in a daze. Once I went down to 25 I was able to work and drive without any problems. I hope this will work for your itching. I don't remember having any itching problems when I was using the patch but I was using it for a different reason. Goodluck, Darcy -I know I will have to go out on sickleave andwon't be able to drive until or IF I adjust to themeds

I agree with the comment about keeping certain things private. If your employer or coworkers don't need to know, DON'T TELL THEM! Mine know that I have a serious liver disease; my supervisor worked as an RN for many years, so she's supportive. I'm not sure they would continue that level of support if they knew all of the medications I take. I'll admit that I, too, had preconceptions about people who used such drugs prior to being prescribed them. When my pain specialist moved me to my current medication, I was absolutely panicked about how it would affect me. But I'm fine; I have a great tolerance for high doses, and function at top level about 85% of the time. The ignorance and biases are all around us. It's a huge obstacle to try to teach others, and I have enough to deal with without worrying as to whether or not anyone outside my family is passing judgment on me because of what I

pick up at the pharmacy. Debbie in Seattle
