For anyone taking turmeric supplements:

Just got a notice from ConsumerLab re lead in turmeric supplements.

Particularly dismaying to me is the lead in the Solgar brand. I've

always like Solgar.

" NSI® Nutraceutical® Sciences Institute Superior™ Turmeric Curcuma Longa

contained the highest amount of lead that ConsumerLab.com has ever found

in a dietary supplement — 18.70 mcg of lead in its suggested daily

serving of two capsules. The State of California— the only state to

regulate lead in supplements — generally requires a warning label on

supplements providing more than 0.5 mcg per day. The lead in this

product far exceeds this limit and represents several times the average

daily adult exposure to lead from all sources. Although lead at this

level may not in itself be toxic to adults, lead is stored in the body

and unnecessary exposure should be avoided. This product should not be

shared with children, as they are susceptible to lead poisoning at

levels as low as 6 micrograms per day, nor should it be used by pregnant

women.

Solgar® Standardize Full Potency™ Turmeric Root Extract contained 4.17

mcg to 8.34 mcg of lead per day in its suggest daily serving of one to

two capsules. As noted above, unnecessary lead exposure should be avoided. "
