Guest guest
Cheryl, I think you may be right, that the more autoimmune diseases you have the more likely it is that you'll get even more. That's what it feels like anyway. I seem to be getting a new diagnosis at least annually. Now I'm also starting to be borderline diabetic!!! -Marie, 56 UC, J-pouch, PSC, AIH, adrenal gland insufficiency P.S. If you're taking 10 mg of prednisone/day, chances are you are adrenal gland insufficient and you should be wearing a medic alert bracelet. If you can't take the prednisone, you need to go to the ER. You also need to take a stress dose of prednisone when you go to the ER or when you're sick. He said he would let me know in a week if he wants to run more tests or if there is enough for a dx. It just brings me back to the old days of trying to get dx with PSC. I do have a bit more patience and sense of peace about such things now, but my overall health is so much worse lately. I am suffering more nausea and am throwing up in the AM. It might be the spironolactone or maybe liver failure. Here's a question about auto-immune diseases: If we get one autoimmune disease, we are more likely to get another, correct? Does that mean that for every new autommune disease that we get, that it statistically increases the likelyhood of getting another? I mean does each autoimmune we get possibly mean that we are more suseptible to getting more and than more? This does not bode well . . . Guest guest
Marie, I am not on prednisone. I dread going on it again. I was on it for a year when I was originally dx with AIH, 4 months later they changed the dx to PSC. About 2 years ago my dr decided I have overlap. But my GI died of a brain tumor and we've never done anything about the AIH. I can't tolerate imuran and 6-mp was causing me to have low blood counts. My new GI says we need to do more tests. But then we never scheduled them. I am so sick with this other thing that I hardly care about the liver problems right now. Woe is me! drama, drama, drama. What are the symptoms of adrenal gland insufficiency? Sorry for all your problems. Guest guest
Oh CHERYL!!! That is EXACTLY how I'm feeling right now! First PBC, PSC, Raynauds, hypothyroid, not his MS nonsense. It seems like I'm " growing " more autoimmune diseases every other month. It will be interested to see what others say. Hope you get some answers quickly! Guest guest
Barb, Thanks for the kind words and thoughts. It does seem kind of isolating feeling so crummy all the time. I know I'll feel better about things once I can get a dx. Then I can go about finding the " team " of doctors I need to work together. Figure out what new treatments will need to be implemented. You know something more proactive than just looking up possibilities on the Internet. Have a good weekend. Guest guest
After a trip to the ER, the ER doc had me increase my prednisone significantly and I felt MUCH better. When I told the hepatologist this, he suspected adrenal gland insufficiency. I've also had dehydration, probably also due in part to adrenal gland insufficiency. -Marie Marie To: From: cswb@...Date: Fri, 20 Jun 2008 13:49:16 -0600Subject: RE: dxing another autoimmune disease Hi Marie,I wasn't worried that I might have it. Guest guest
Hello all, What a bummer to wake up to! I don't want to have to expect a new disease every year now... I have had PSC for around 10 years (I'm 25), Ulcerative Colitis for the same amount of time and last year I was diagnosed with 's disease. Definitely have your doctor do a cortisol and ACTH test. Some symptoms of 's are dark pigmented skin, craving salty foods, pounding headaches, vomiting and nausea (to a ridiculous extent!), mood changes, incredible fatigue (not even being able to stand up to pee), shortness of breath, etc. For whatever reason cortisol is the last thing doctors test for. This seems bizarre to me because it is such an obvious culprit for fatigue. Good luck! > > > After a trip to the ER, the ER doc had me increase my prednisone significantly and I felt MUCH better.
