Guest guest
-Hi Beth, I haven't read your intro yet, but nice to meet you -- sorry for the reason why. As for donating, you *can* donate but the Red Cross with dispose of your blood, thus costing them money. My first inkling that I had a liver problem was back in 1990 when I was 22 when I donated blood (I had already hit a gallon!). I got a letter a few weeks after letting me know my donation had been rejected due to elevated liver enzymes. My GI at the time started running LFTs on me regularly at that time. When I was finally Dx'ed with PSC in 2000, I asked my GI about donating blood. He told me that I could do it, but I would be wasting my time and the Red Crosses resources, as my blood would be rejected due to the wacky liver enzymes. I haven't started doing it yet -- too busy with little kids at the moment -- but I am going to get in touch with the Elks here in town. They run blood drives regularly. I figure I can bake some brownies or help get the word out for them and contribute in that way. HTH, Colleen uc 8/1984 psc 8/2000
