Guest guest
Hi All, just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Beth and I turned 50 this year. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis when I was 20 years old (with signs that I actually had it possibly at 16). I was just diagnosed yesterday 5/20 with PSC. I did spend 3 days in the hospital in March this year with pancreatitis, where I had multiple small stones removed and my GI doctor said my biliary ducts looked moth eaten at the time, but thought that is might have been the irritation from the pancreatitis. I was pretty jaundiced by the time I went into the hospital-my daughter stated " Nice shade of yellow, Mom " Well now I know is that it was not just irritation from the stones with pancreatitis. My GI actually removed more small stones when he did the ERCP that he diagnosed me with PSC with, So here are my questions-- 1--has anyone had issues with taking Urso-Forte (I am 500mg BID)? 2--are there any foods that you have had to back off of(such as calcium products--please no I need my yogurt everyday)? 3--I don't drink a lot, but as long as I am not in end stage liver disease is it okay to have a drink or two every so often? 4--just wondering what some of the issues that others have had with PSC? thanks in advance with any answers to my silly questions, Beth B Thornton,CO
Guest guest
Hi Beth! Now for a proper intro! Again -- I am sorry that you are here, but you will find this group to be very supportive and an embarressment of riches when it comes to information about UC and PSC. Ask away -- there are no silly questions. As for the specifics -- I have taken Ursoforte without any difficulty. Some do find it takes about a month for your system to " deal " with it. There might be some stomach upset during adjustment, but nothing serious. I eat pretty much what I want. I definitely eat yogurt and other probiotics -- including fermented veggies (real sauerkraut, etc.). Good stuff! I was Dx'ed in 2000 before my husband was even my fiance. In that time, I can tell you every drink I've had and they include champagne at my own wedding, a drink on our honeymoon, a yummy Irish coffee one October weekend in Stowe, VT, and sips of champagne at two other weddings. For me, drinking is not worth the risk. I have two little ones -- 4 years old and 20 months. I have a lot of work ahead of me and don't want to do anything to get me to stage 4 any faster than I am heading there anyway. If you have a daughter old enough to be teasing you about your lovely yellow color, then your mileage may vary! Regards, Colleen
