Question about ventilators

I was talking with a nurse today who has been a traveling nurse, going from home to home, and she asked me if I was aware of ventilators that can be used in the home past the time the lungs can't be used anymore. I am not. I guess I'll get the point where I may need to know about that stuff though. Anybody know anything about those?
