Re: above My doc specifically recommended a form of calcium containing " elemental calcium " and now that I'm being treated for osteoporosis, I'm taking Vitamin D Analog (available only by prescription). Apparently the over the counter version isn't as effective at helping with calcium absorption. But if your mom has thinning bones, would that not suggest osteoporosis? Actonel or Fosamax are two drugs that are supposed to help with that. I'm taking the former once a week.
