Guest guest
Thanks . I drink so much water every day due to my dry mouth. I cannot even imagine it being thick! lol When I took care of my father after his stroke he had to have all his liquids thickened. I had forgotten that until you mentioned it. How did your move go?hugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. I'll keep you in my prayers and hope that this doesn't happen again anytime soon (or at all for that matter). I know that in a clinical setting, they would tell you to avoid watery drinks like well… water. Try drinking thickened beverages such as a banana milkshake or a thick juice (like apricot). If you're able to down that easier, then you need to get hold of an OT to do a small assessment. There are ways to thickened liquids – including water that can allow you to drink more safely. I know it's contrary to what your reflexes usually demand, but for myself, I've found that when I have trouble swallowing, leaning a little bit back allows me to get it down. Please take care of yourself and when you have difficulties, act more slowly… I've learned that brushing only makes matters worse.Lifeportunities: transform your home-based life into freedom. This choking happens when I'm drinking water mostly. When it's really bad I motion to my back and someone will come and firmly pat/pound on my back and I can finally get a breath again. I worry that a bad one will happen when I'm alone though. It is scary. I sure wish I had a neuro up here on the mountain! I keep hearing the hospital is getting closer to getting a neuro to move here... been hearing that for over a year. lol SharonThis email is a natural hand made product.
