Guest guest
I can't help with the entirety of your question, Randy, but I do know that the doctors are sometimes concerned that bacteria will collect behind and around the stent, and lead to cholangitis. Maybe that is his reason for wanting to take it out? I had a stent in place during my first fever/chills episode, and they took the stent out for that very reason. [Three weeks later I had a blockage w/ infection right back in that same place and they put a stent back in again, though, so the stent may have had nothing to do with it at all.] Good luck, Genevieve UC 1983, J-Pouch 1999, PSC 12/07 > > After I explained to my gastro dr. that every two and a half weeks 3 1/2 hours after I eat something I get the chills and vomit and then put on cipro for 10 days he wants to take the stent out of my common bile duct and see how I do. Is this normal? wont I just go back to having abdominal pain again WITH the vomiting? He's taking in out on 7/18/08. I am going in for a full colectomy on 7/21/08. I hope if anything does happen with my PSC that it happens while I'm already in the hospital. >

Guest guest
Mine was removed after two weeks, due to URQ pain; (stent was probably blocking my gallbladder duct. I've not had an ERCP since then (2001), nor do I have any symptoms. Everyone is different, but as long as the duct doesn't collapse, you're probably better off without the stent. Stents can be a reservoir for infection, and they can become " clogged " . No guarantees, but it might work for you. Guest guest
You're having a colectomy??? Why?? This is really major surgery. I would almost think they would remove the stent then. Anyway, good luck with the surgery. I had it done in 2000.Marie I am going in for a full colectomy on 7/21/08. Guest guest
Randy: When I was first dx with PSC in Aug 07 the doc's had put in a stent. This was my first ERCP. After the stent had been for about a week I had some problems and another ERCP was done and the stent was taken out. After this I felt better.
