how to handle rude shoppers when in a scooter... (Donna)

Ahhhhh... tax time. Is that why we are hearing from you today, Donna? lolWhen I am shopping it is so annoying when people congregate right in the way where I can't get through. It's super aggravating when they turn and look at me there in my electric scooter and then turn back to their conversation. I've hit on a solution that works for me every time. I just start going forward saying "I can never get these things to stop -- I hope I don't HIT anyone!!" I say it loudly and with a smile and they do move. Usually in a hurry:)hugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. The slight

Well, when it comes to a power

cart.. you're right.. if we hit ours on a "busy" (okay, so

Wal-Mart never has a non-busy day) rarely will one find a cart

that is fully charged.. Our local one even had a cart that when

you tried to turn right with it.. would died instantly!!.. and

they didn't even mark it out of order...

If we get me out of the house to actually hit a Wal-Mart.. we go

at really strange hours.. sometimes after midnight and into the

wee-hours of the morning.. otherwise, if we go at peak or even

not-so peak hours.. by the time we get out of that place I'm

ready to kill something! Between the small areas in the clothing

department (and I HAVE to hit the clearance racks) that a cart

doesn't fit through.. and the rude people (not all are rude, but

the ones that are, take on all of the rudeness that would be

inside the non-rude plus all the indifferent people combined!)..

I've actually had people push their cart over to the side where

I am (and I stay as close to the side of the aisle as I can with

the cart), directly in front of me.. park their cart right

there.. and walk away!!!.. now I've got to try and back up in a

crowded aisle so that I can swing that cart out into a busy

stream of traffic in the aisle to get around the parked cart..

Really wish I could get up and run after them and grab them by

their itty bitty necks.. One of these days, if isn't

standing close by.. I WILL become very vocal (he'd be totally

embarrassed and die right on the spot if I did that with him

there) and let the rude person know exactly how rude they are..

Other times I've run into extremely nice and helpful people..

One gentleman even stood in the center of the end of the aisle

and blocked traffic so that I could get out of the aisle and

around the corner to the next.. right in the middle of Christmas

rush too.. LOL.. I'll never forget that man.. but I will also

never forget the asshole (sorry about the language)... who

standing directly behind me and my cart.. said loudly enough..

"People of Wal-Mart" that everyone around us could hear.. I

expect to one day open one of those emails and find a picture of

my butt in a cart in that check out line...

They redesigned or redecorated the back of the store ladies

room.. and with the new design, even in my power chair, that

isn't but maybe 24 inches wide.. I'm going to be very hard

pressed to get through between the sinks and the stalls doors to

get to the handicapped stall.. without getting wedged between or

running over someone.. Where was their brain in that design???

But, EVEN WORSE than Wal-Mart is Burlington Coat Factory -- not

inside a super mall type deal, where you can get a chair from

the mall itself if you don't have one of your own -- needed

an overcoat for winter, for working in the parking lot, on

funeral days.. Well the only place I could think of that would

handle one of those fancy men's dress coats (double breasted,

some type of wool blend, heavy to be warm, not just for looks

type coats) was Burlington Coat Factory... I thought it was at

the Mall, but it wasn't. They must have moved out into a

building all their own (they bought an out of business

department store).. We get there.. I didn't bring my

wheelchair.. goes inside to get theirs.. only to find they

don't have one.. none.. nothing.. zero.. zilch.. They have

handicapped parking spaces out the wazoo.. but NOTHING to assist

a handicapped person into and around their store.. Oh.. but

you're more than welcome to bring your own!!! (that's what I was

told).. and then if you call them on the phone, they'll even

send an employee out to assist you get into your chair and even

push you around the store and then get you back into your

vehicle and on your way.. Ummmmm.... If I'm going to pay you

$200 or more for a men's winter dress overcoat.. I certainly

expect to be able to SHOP for that coat.. not having to find a

seat in the shoe department, while the man runs back and forth

from the clothing rack.. saying.. what do you think of this

one.. what about this one.. and on and on.. I was SOOO livid by

the time I left that store.. I told them that I was going to

post everywhere I could find on the internet that they were not

handicapped accessible let alone handicapped oriented or

friendly..

Can you tell that I'm working very hard to avoid filing my

income tax online??? LOL..

Do not try Wal Mart - they are the worst - 3 carts per

store may or may not be charged - I had the indignity in K

Mart of being pushed by a young man while I sat in a wheel

chair - I refused to go back

Country Mart is family - Harry my sisters son works at the

one on the East side of town - as long as I can get the cart I

can do it - the tv dinners are $1.09 each - great for supper

and i don't have to cook when I am tired - they have a wicked

awesome double German Chocolate cake - supposed to be one

piece - yeah right - my indulgence once a month

when I was working I could pre order supper for me and if I

knew in time for my supervisor - and take it in to work at Red

Cross - I did it becauce he kept drooking over mine -

homecooking cooking cheap

God, grant me the strength of eagles wings,

the faith and courage to fly to new heights,

and the wisdom to rely on his spirit to carry me there.

What a GREAT idea!!!

Oh that would make life soooo much easier. Now I

wonder if Giant Eagle, around here, would do

something like that for me.. It would be much better

for to just drop in, pick up & pay for the

stuff I've called in than him having to grab a cart

and run through the store, trying to remember all

the stuff he's supposed to be picking up on his way

home.. Would save a TON of time as well. Would

definitely have done some good for us these past few

weeks, with him not leaving the funeral home until

sometimes after 7 in the evening (some days 12 1/2

hours in).. so dinner isn't appearing before 9

p.m... and then it's TV dinners if it's 9.. would be

much later if he starts from scratch type meals..

THANK YOU soooo much for this idea.. I know that

there are a few stores around the city that offered

that type of service, but via online shopping type

thing.. Somehow you go through a "virtual store"

online, check off what you want & quantity..

they prepare the order in-store, an have it waiting

for you to pick up.. not sure either of the ones we

use have that service available.. but I will be

calling each of the stores, and talking to someone

about it.. Maybe, just maybe the stores aren't as

inconsiderate as the impression that they give..

when I go to Walgreen's it ticks me off to see

the window cleaner's truck in the handicap parking -

it is hard to park elsewhere and hike in - I am

better at reminding cashiers to divide my spoils

into carry bags - had enough of plastic bags

breaking and dirty looks when I asked for double

bagging

never happends at Country Mart - but then 10

years plus ... they help me and Becky when we worked

at Willow and picked up our list and got it to the

service desk for us so we could swoop in - when I

got sick I could call it in and having given

money - he picked it up for me and brought it home -

since then they put it in the buggy and and I

go to the car real slow and talk and he rides the

buggy back after he fills my trolly up

great system we have

if I am having a poop out day the ladies and

sometimes the manager at Sav A Lot get the stuff in

the car for me - right in front of the car

God, grant me the strength of eagles wings,

and the wisdom to rely on his spirit to carry me

Took these photos this afternoon in my condo

building parking lot: A USPS truck parked in

the Handicap parking spot. Really no excuse

for the carrier to park here as all the

visitor spots were vacant. Just need to find

out where to send my photos at the US Postal

when I went to my sisters elementary school - the kids accepted me with the crutch - if they looked at me funny I just smiled and said my leg rebelled like a teenager and I didn't want to fall - before I would dress up for holidays - to the nines - they always got a laugh out of it - they knew Mrs Ushers sister was a little crazy - but funny God, grant me the strength of eagles wings, the faith and courage to fly to new heights, and the wisdom to rely on his spirit to carry me there.

Ahhhhh... Usually in a hurry:)hugs

You're right n..

Strollers or even in the shopping cart seat thing for kids..

They always, but always, smile, and usually wave as well or even

say "Hi!" while waving.  That's THE best part of having to be in

one of those darned things.  I always smile, wave back and say

"Hi" too.

USPS truck parked in

handicap spot [2 Attachments]

Took these photos this

afternoon in my condo building

parking lot: A USPS truck

parked in the Handicap parking

spot. Really no excuse for the

carrier to park here as all

the visitor spots were vacant.

Just need to find out where to

send my photos at the US

Postal Service.
